Finished a multiple-year quest to complete a marathon or longer distance in all 50 US states by finishing in Hawaii in January. Oddly enough, what I learned is that the type of shape I was in to run/walk a marathon slowly on back-to-ba

I still get royalties from programming books I wrote about ten years ago - the content has been updated by other authors in the mean time, and the corresponding royalty split has declined, but I don't do anything active either. On the

One particular reason is that historic sites that contain Mississippian culture mounds aren't that interesting - they are very hard to interpret, and there isn't much known about the underlying civilization. I visit many of these

Fascinating - I have an HP Stream 7, and it's just a little too slow as a Windows tablet to be worth using for casual web browsing or Windows apps. The form factor is great - it's a little thicker than a Nexus 7 tablet (closer to

Neither - I'd focus on staying in Atlanta where you can be a big fish in a smaller pond, rather than yet another startup in NYC or SF. Several reasons: * More likely to get local press in Atlanta, because the "scene" is small

I think the problem might be that users of ad blockers have traditionally been a little more passive - possibly 99% never provide input about an ad, and 1% contribute. Facebook ads are targeted, so not all users will see the same image at t

Don't know of any here in Austin off the top of my head, but a quick search on Indeed reveals that HomeAway and Spiceworks are looking for developers who know Go - of course, that could just be for a pilot project or something.

Hi, I've built a similar mobile app for both iOS and Android (as two native applications, not sharing a code base), built on top of Parse as the back-end-as-a-service. I also teach mobile app development at the university level. I don&

I'd strongly suggest getting away from the city. If you've only got patience for a short drive, Costanoa in Pescadero (halfway to Santa Cruz) is a great getaway for a couple of days. Further away, I'd suggest Trinidad, Pinnac

The good news from this announcement is that they aren't shutting the service down, as their costs have now fallen enough that they are cash flow positive. Prior discussion on HN about a $6 million Series A, raised two years ago: http

Previous versions of the MapBox SDK had offline tile caching, for both Android and iOS. Worked really well if you could know which tiles you needed to download in advance. This update is for the new version of their SDK, Mapbox GL. When the
