If you create a popular app you will get ripped in public. At least here you have a chance to respond quickly. The HN community provides insightful & quality feedback that would otherwise be provided by a user. To me, it's a no-brainer.

Funds are always looking for Limited Partners. You may be able to learn this way while also investing... Shoot me an email if you are interested -- I know a few Seed stage funds looking for LP's.

This is great! I think the UI & interaction is perfect. The only feature(s) I would use would be conditional messages.. (if logged in, if paying customer, etc..) I will use this as-is and plan to implement asap. Well done.

I have a ton of domains that I would partner or give away. All were potential business ideas at one point (I'm happy to discuss just email me...) - adafio.com - online ads - advergy.com - same - cheqd.in - social check-ins - faq5.com

True. When the prices are substantially raised you are forced to 1) pay the price or 2) re-integrate. So the cost in the my first point is actually doubled.

This is true. I would be willing to bet that 99% of chargify customers assumed they agreed to the current prices. This agreement (contract or not) is trust. Thus my point, the trust is lost.

Of course. I feel as if you are arguing for the sake of arguing. It's not about their rights. It is my opinion that without consistent pricing (i.e. TRUST) its dangerous to rely on any company.

I agree, its not worth thousands but it is worth > $0. You must agree this investment by the integrating company makes them unlikely to leave. A contract is worthless for a company in this situation. The cost of enforcing it is thousan

@tptacek I am saying is that Chargify falsely presumes companies under a FREEMIUM account are worthless. My point is that they are unlikely to leave [since they have invested their own resources] unless the trust is broken or perhaps, th

Thank you. I am glad you understood the gist of my post. The point of the FREEMIUM argument is to show: 1) There is substantial value here companies will pay for. 2) We are investing in the company, and there is an expectation of fairness

I agree with this. It is a crucial app that anyone would pay for. The gateway alone is about $100/mo. so it is not like we expect it for free. As I have stated in the comments, the issue is that the price change was not grandfathered is a

This was definitely not the point of the article. It was to show how the decision making process @Chagify was flawed: 1) Chargify is not freemium to the customer. 2) Trust is important when you integrate and there are significant switching

What David seems to forget is the following: 1) Free customers DO PAY for Chargify, just not to them directly. It cost us several days of development time + testing to integrate with them. 2) You lost trust because you weren't fair. Chang

I know quite a few online professional poker players. They have won & lost several million combined. Many were 'born' out of a home game we had at Michigan State in the early 2000's. To the average person the swings are insane; for a
