I'm truly impressed and would love to play around with my own version. But it is funny how re-creating forty-year-old technology is now considered an achievement.

In regards to the App Store: why can't people understand the concept of a line? People are complaining because supposedly "unworthy" apps like this make it through ahead of their world-changing app. That's because the "unworthy" app got th

Fan when we can take care of medical questions quickly and efficiently (yes, it _can_ happen with the NHS), but also critical of some poor experiences we've had.

I'm also a fan of the NHS, but also try to recognize where it (like any organisation) fails. Very courageous, and incredible initiative by the doc! (I can imagine a number of docs thinking about how they could do it, but this guy actually

Unfortunately, when they might have to shell out millions if the baby dies after using an untested medical device, that's not an easy thing for them to see.

To clarify, the NHS is a VERY risk averse organisation. And a home-built dialysis machine is a very risky machine to build and use. Well done to the doc.

It's definitely my favorite app, as well. I download the paper before I leave in the morning, so when my train into work dives into the tunnels, I can catch up on the news before I even show up at my desk! (Much more productive than spend

My problem with this is that everybody getting their ideas in the same place quickly turns to group-think. And that breeds derivative products and services with negligable added benefit.

Except for those MBA's that go into the higher tiers of banking/finance/trading. Those guys can get bonuses that, if saved over a few years, could easily reach $5M.

I've done a lot of research/consulting in prediction markets. I'm not totally surprised that in theory bluffing is possible. I've seen cases of market manipulation in my research. But I think everyone should look at the results in a diffe

Awesome! Back in college I made a Matlab program that used Genetic Algorithms to find the optimal flight path for spacecraft that had to do "fly-by"'s of particular planets at particular times. It was complicated, but a lot of fun. (Unfor

It certainly provides a better understanding of what the VC's are thinking about when they're investing. Of particular note was how soon they have to identify the "losers" and cut them off from further funding.

That's too bad. I really want to see them succeed, but it's a whole series of difficult engineering problems. I'm glad to hear they've got cash to keep them going for a while, but they need to start racking up successes soon.

I don't particularly agree with him, either. If you're doing sensible things, like turning off push e-mail when you're in the office, not keeping 3G on when you're in patchy coverage, etc. it should last you the day. I live in London, wher
