Staff were involved after the fact. The Code of Conduct, which these attendees agreed to, makes it clear that this behavior is not allowed. Very often with bad behavior, the offender is anonymous and intentional, and the subtext is: "what

As stated in the post, the db migration was a large enough change that having both codebases working on the migrating db would have been a high cost.

30 people per day are killed with guns in the US. Some of those people are kids. Probably less than 20 kids per day, you're right. I do not hold a child's life higher than an adult's. I realize that's a weird thing to lots of people. Ma

Ah, well for sure your privacy decisions are your business. I personally am careful what I choose to share. If you feel that sharing your political views is dangerous or damaging or what-have-you, that is your choice, but you are also rem

This is a thing I want personally. Most recently the excitement and focus on Sandy Hook has frustrated me. 1 Sandy Hook occurs every day in the United States. We just shrug off the sad local news story and continue eating dinner. The fa

Both Causes and Votizen are venture-backed companies, definitely expecting to make revenue. I've heard this confusion consistently from people, so I get where you're coming from. It is possible to have a for-profit business whose customer

This is in reference to Tarantino's recently-released movie "Django Unchained": http://news.moviefone.com/2012/06/06/django-unchained-traile... Only Django devs are likely to care about this, as air-traffic controllers howling at the inan

Playing devil's advocate here, there's another reason: Rule #1 of startups is: don't die. In reliability planning, 2 is 1 and 1 is none. A single founder is a SPoF. They get cancer, get an unsupportive SO, get a needy family member, lose

I'm not the poster/site author, and we're saying the same thing. My claim is that since YouTube ultimately is responding to copyright complaints, SoundSlice is no worse than a tab-sharing site with regard to infringement. I don't see how

2-finger scroll: I'm pretty sure this happens when there are no unscrolled bars under the cursor - so how about an old-school JS hack (remember those?): 1) put the annotation inside a container (and make that position:relative); annotation

Copyright: YouTube is the host and already has well-formed copyright/takedown/safe harbor policies. The transcription/tab output itself can not be copyright - sweat of the brow. There is the question of whether a useful user resource can be

In some previous twitter work, I've seen geo-located tweets at about 2-3% of all tweets (assuming no bias), so charitably 19750 racist tweets here. Which is to say, I agree with you.

Yeah, it's a tough call. If we slow it down, we'd have to show fewer as the underlying stream is zipping by. We considered pause or pause-on-hover, but sort of assume people will glance at it, not stare at it, if that makes sense. Gestal

We have voter rolls (preprocessed) into elastic search. We do search using data available from twitter (name & location, mostly). We can't match all twitter users who are voters, but we have a very low false-positive rate.
