Anyone saying the interactive section is not tech-focused is out of the (tech) loop. Case in point: I attended the Infochimps Data Cluster Meetup. They kicked it off with a debate around SQL vs NOSQL. 5 minutes into one of the NOSQL guys

coderdude - I work at 80legs ( http://www.80legs.com ). Just messaged you via your contact form. We should talk about a potential partnership. It would make more sense to cooperate than to compete, as we are in the same market.

If you're interested in doing this, just use 80legs, which lets you provide your own applications to customize web content processing ( http://80legs.pbworks.com/80apps ).

Yep. The only reason it caught on was because it was made available through a tool everyone uses already.. kind of like how Internet Explorer is used..

Well, that was sort of the point of my original comment. The test will work if bar-people represent your target customer base. This won't be the case for B2B products and may not be the case for some Consumer products.

Yeah, I don't know a bar frequented by people interested in the Semantic Web or web-crawling.

One additional note that should be added: results will only be useful if your desired customer base is represented well by people at a bar.

Pete still uses us for his crawling. He switched over to AWS for some of his crawling because we had a throttle on some of the sites he wanted to crawl. But now that we know we can crawl those sites more quickly, we're looking into relaxi

Always tough to be in the in-between stages. Providing an index is something we'll probably consider in the near future. We did a survey with our users and found that a fair number would like to have an index of our/their crawled data.

p.s. We're looking into integrating 80legs with Lucene/Nutch/Solr for indexing goodness.

Are you trying to build your own index or do you just want to make a limited number of calls to someone else's index?

I'm not sure if the Wii controller is accurate enough to realize what imaginative developers would have in mind for it. Case in point: Force Unleashed has a very limited set of motions (vertical/horizontal swings). This game should have be

Perhaps an additional requirement is good marketing from the App Store company. Apple aggressively markets the iPhone App Store. I don't see Google doing the same. iPhone Apps are a big success because they are "top of mind" for the gene

App Stores are much more likely to be a viable business for an already-successful technology company with a well-known brand. Speaking from personal experience, App Stores don't work very well for smaller companies with a smaller customer b

The reason the request rate was at 4 was that at some point your site responded to 4 req/sec without problems. User-agent is the accepted and standardized way to communicate with bots. Getting angry at us for following robots.txt is like

Check out our service, 80legs, for help with your back-end web-crawling. (My goal this weekend, and ongoing, is to get more users for 80legs!! :)

Being able to predict where/when murder happens leads to a more efficient and effective distribution of law enforcement. Other cities have done this with non-violent crime/traffic violations/etc., and crime has gone down. So prediction = pr

Not understanding the downvotes. Solving this problem would easily save hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not millions, in law enforcement and litigation costs. To put a paltry $100 reward for _preventing murder_ is, frankly, pathetic.

You're talking about Digsby. If you managed to follow the story to its conclusion, you'll see that they dramatically changed the install process to follow Plura's (our sister company) affiliate agreement.
