http://www.80legs.com - web-scale web-crawling for everyone. Launched in September and growing revenue now. We've solved a lot of big data store issues in our back-end. Challenges have shifted from technical to business :) Extractiv -

Yep, a fairly well-known technique, albeit with a different implementation. I would be more intrigued, though, to learn how to discipline your mind to do a task when it needs to be done (right now or at some later specific time). It seems

It's a low number in terms of # of profile listing for a telemarketer. Telemarketers buy on the order of hundreds of thousands or millions.

This is something we can include as an 80App :) Thanks for the suggestion!

Actually, a lot of the code for our 80Apps is open source.

While the JVM does support many languages, as far as we know, these languages all require reflection to work. Unfortunately, reflection is prohibited by the security policy Plura has in place to protect the home PCs Plura-based apps use. I

Actually, most people in Houston tend to refer to the area inside the 610 loop in a way like the oc did. People outside 610 do not vote to the left.

Houston "proper" is a fraction of the City of Houston. (I assume you mean inside the loop.)

I would argue that most tier 1 universities in the world should have a strong research focus. Posting a list of accomplished alums is nothing special, right? I mean, any good university is going to have that.

I'll admit that I only have a passing familiarity with consultancies and other companies in India, but I don't think I'm defining innovation too narrowly. A striking example is the IITs. These universities are lauded as some of the best in

Speaking as an Indian by ethnicity but American (U.S.) by birth and heart, I can say I have always found India to be void of innovation. There is a general attitude there that there making leaps and bounds in terms of developing their econ

Hi, I recently read your article entitled "Where's the Money in Casual Web Game Development?". Our firm, Plura Processing, provides a really easy way for online games to make money through grid computing. If a game developer embeds Plura

In the past, I have emailed blogs that have just written a story about a topic relevant to my company. For example, when GigaOm wrote a store called "Where's the money in casual gaming?", I emailed them saying "Hey, we've got a great way to

I think it's fairly obvious from my posts that I work for 80legs. If you try out the latest Digsby installation, you'll see that they've changed the install process. So while I suppose I am biased, it's also a fairly objective thing to obs

We're exploring the use of other languages that work in the JVM, but for now it's just Java. The problem with other languages is that they all make use of reflection to get themselves working, which Plura's security sandbox does not allow.

I know Plura uses IP information to prevent bandwidth overages, but I don't think they have a list of top hosts. 80legs enforces throttles and rate limits on the sites that are crawled. We try to make a best guess at a rate limit for each

Actually all Digsby users are told up-front during the install process about Plura. And you can easily turn off Plura from Digsby.

The 50,000+ computers come from a distributed grid computing system that's similar to a commercial opt-in SETI@home. Because of that, we don't know exact specs on the computers, but here are the limitations that 80Apps have: http://80legs.
