They work pretty well for any scraper that's not using an actual browser with JavaScript engine. It keeps the riff-raff out. A dedicated person will eventually work his way around all available counter-measures, though.

What if the site requires you to create an account and login? Can the bot create it's own account, and still claim to not consent?

Back when I worked for a very large tech company, building their web crawler, I had good success with Golang. On four servers, with 10 GigE interconnect and SSD, and a very fast pipe to the Internet, I was able to push about 10K pages /

My experience, when it comes to scraping airline websites, the airline's legal department usually doesn't wait to have proof that you were the one that actually scraped them. If you have their data on your website, they send you a

I thought the number one anti-bot measure was a cease and desist letter :) seriously though, some of these websites clearly don't want to be scraped, what's stopping them from sending scrapehub a C&D letter and forcing them to

I encountered this on one website, that recently rewrote their website to be mobile-responsive. Depending on the width of the browser window, the right selectors would be totally different, talk about confusing!

Very cool, any plans to bring it to desktop as well? Seems like this could be a very useful tool for people getting into deep learning, but may not necessarily be targeting mobile. (From the landing page, it seems mobile-only.)

Can't you just turn off auto-updating (for both the OS and apps)? Or maybe just leave on auto-update for Spotify, since they probably don't service very old client versions. Probably turn off iCloud as well, since it will nag you

I've found it akin to being able to ask someone to grab the wheel for a moment, while I do some quick task. I'm still able to feel if the car veers, or suddenly decelerates, so I'm able to take control quickly, but I don'

The delta encoding will be more efficient with higher frame rate, but also x264 has a tweak which decreases quality factor as frame rate increases. Why? The reasoning was that, since the frame is displayed for less time, you don't have

iOS doesn't lack such a setting because of an oversight for the past nine years. To carriers, there is no such thing as "unlimited" internet.

Probably because the current solution is much simpler, and works better in the majority of cases. I wouldn't want to worry before going for a long drive, whether all my maps data has been updated or not. Since my car is connected to wi

Even on iOS's App Store, you cannot download apps over 150MB using cellular. I thought this was actually mandated by the carriers (who were concerned in early days that app downloads would overly congest their network) and wouldn'

Maybe a good idea for a future add-on to this product: sell a stand-alone hub (something like a Raspberry Pi) that could replace the need for an iOS or MacOS device. You could still use an iOS (or Android) app to configure the hub. It'

I think the Zeiss Loxia (mirrorless) and Milvus (SLR) lines are an interesting comparison point, since they're both from the same manufacturer, both manual focus, and should both be comparable quality. The Loxia 21mm/f2.8 is 72 mm
