I get people don't like snaps but adding a third-party repository with root access to your computer is not doing anyone any favors. Even if it is run by a trusted community member a PPA will never have the guarantees of the packages in

IDEs usually expect/require access to all sorts of things on the host, things like vscode can be used to use remote container support on the host, etc. but it's still an area that needs improvement. Personally I just layer my IDEs
