You don't need to die to injure yourself on a bike. I've hit ruts in the road and scraped my knee and torn pants. I've slipped my foot off the pedal and wacked my shin, cut my hand putting a chain back on the derailer, and nu

Carbon emission from vehicle manufacturing is localized to the area they are manufactured in. The benefits of electric vehicles is that you don't have cities and suburbs full of smog from combustion engines. You must live in a warm cli

You can't run any major resource operation without smart people. Unless you want to do it with shovels, you need smart people to set up the machinery and keep it running. You need trade agreements so you can actually get that machinery

The original purpose of the nuclear energy program in the US was so they could have any number of facilities able to create nukes at a moment's notice. It was just a happy coincidence that we could also draw power from these reactors.

Or what about this: I am indecisive about what music I want to listen to in this current moment and I want you to give me options that I will deny until I become decisive about what I want.

I’ve had some exposure to the travel industry by working for a credit card loyalty program, but nothing formal. I appreciate your honest reply and wish you luck!

How will you scale? The reason that travel booking is so bad is because once you get too big, you start to eat the (very thin) margins of everyone in the travel industry. Then they get all defensive and, if you don't get acquired, star

Turning off read receipts doesn't actually turn off read receipts, it just does't show the state to the user. Facebook still knows whether or not my message was read.

This is just email tech playing catch up with instant messaging, twitter, and other communication tools. At least with email I can block images and prevent the tracking from occurring. I can't do that with facebook or twitter.

So the people who fund them are happy to just have the money go into a hole and... then what? They definitely have metrics. How do they know which journalists are writing good articles? How do they know which topics to write about?

Their metrics are for “articles viewed”, not “articles that the reader read and enjoyed”. They don’t care if you get bored halfway through, they probably don’t even care if you read the article. As long as the numbers for the money metrics

You’d need to hear stories from the trenches to understand my comment. My brother works in a branch, most of his day to day activities are explaining to people why they don’t have enough money in their accounts. “Well Jim, you spent $100 at

It’s a risky play. At my enterprise company, we’re not allowed to use a single vendor for everything, we explicitly must use different companies if a favoured vendor hits a certain spend threshold. This is to prevent cost overruns and solut

Yeah, I feared it was a politicized term. I guess my real thought here is, what is the end goal? So you call it a genocide and give a lump sum of money to the indigenous populations. Now what? The government already admits guilt time and ti

I’m not understanding why it’s a genocide. It’s not one entity performing these killings and it’s not organized; lots of indigenous women are just in shitty situations, that doesn’t make it a genocide. We’re talking about ~100 deaths a year
