One main obstacle for their cloud business in general and specifically Azure is that the latest GDPR rulings in Europe basically says that it is illegal for European companies to use Azure (or AWS or GCP) if you store any personal informati

I am not sure if you are claiming that MS is bureaucratic inside or the tools and applications they create are hard to use. If we are talking about the inside then it does not seem to have stopped them from becoming gigantic. If you mean t

It probably depends a lot on what the code is doing . I've seen systems with multiple services inside and a couple of them had to do db calls and could not be cached. You can easily end up with 10-30 servers. Also, the cheap versions m

I neither a c++ programmer nor a rust one but I read things about programming. My take is that rust is near the breaking point where it becomes so commonly used that more teams and organizations will just start to use it. The risk of switc

The bigger issue in my view is that Azure, AWS and GCP may be illegal. What should we use instead? How much will it cost to switch?

Backblaze used to have a pricing model where they limit how much you can upload per month but not directly how much you can store in total. Could be worth it if you have more than 1 TB. Or even more than 200 GB at Google.

I also hate their pricing model. So far we are below 200GB and after that we can open another account for my wife. I hope they increase the limit before we reach 400 GB. Maybe MS has some solution, they have a 1 GB level.

Or just take a disk to a relative, like a parent or sibling, once a year. It is a very low chance that you both get break-ins at the same time but you can always have a cloud copy too.

Of course everything can be made to work but in my experience and from what I've heard from others there are some cultural differences, language barriers and time zone problems that makes this is bit less efficient and sometimes outrig

I agree with you. There might be some alternatives though. Where I live (Nordic country) we can choose to work less time when we have kids. If one parent only works 80% that means he/she (most often she) can work from 8 am to 3 pm and

You can switch to WindiCSS or Tailwind and use the optimized output. That is usually a lot shorter. Tailwind actually has its own jit compiler for development since the old, full css was extremely long. Windi always creates small css as far

I can just add that WindiCss is worth testing. In my small trials it worked a lot better than Tailwind with jit. Windi with Vite gives me a really fast dev experience. We'll see if UnoCss takes over.

If you a 100 different types of buttons I can see your problem, if it is more like 5 then you just create them first and then makes the code more DRY. For example when using React you can create 5 button components first and the refactor yo

From someone not used to GCP Cloud Spanner and Big Query sounds like great products but the general trend seems to be to go with AWS or Azure. Maybe their solutions are good enough. We have started to use CosmosDb and it scales enough for u

Php change from 4.x to 5.x broke my web sites and I still don't trust php after that. I guess they might do it again from 7.x to 8.x, we'll see. If having the same code working for a long time is the most important for you then yo

I would guess nodejs has the same development velocity. And you can just copy js files into a server that has node to build a web application.
