If you insist on running models locally on a laptop then a Macbook with as much unified ram as you can afford is the only way to get decent amounts of vram. But you'll save a ton of money (and time from using more capable hardware) if

For people who have tried this, how good is the latency from when I press ctrl-r [first letter] to when I start seeing results? If it's not instant it's just going to frustrate me.

I could easily believe the constraint being the tiny number of k-12 teachers who themselves understand math well enough to teach it like this, no matter how small you'd like to make classes.

GPT4 is so much better than 3.5 at virtually everything that I don't think it's worth trying to figure out which ones 3.5 is almost adequate enough for. Also, the pricing is per token, so even with 4 it is close to negligible unle

Error handling in Rust is actually a lot worse than you think. In fact it may be the single worst aspect of the language. Fundamentally it is difficult to impossible to fix bugs without knowing what code caused it. Java-style exceptions gi

God damn, Ian has been releasing super creative code since before I started paying serious attention to Python circa 2005. Great to start 2023 with another one. The opportunity to hire someone of his caliber doesn't come up often.

I was super unimpressed with the 1.0 release of Photo AI; in particular, the sharpening was a LOT slower than standalone. But that's fixed now, and unless Topaz starts backporting the improved models to the standalone tools -- so far,
