My thirteen year old watches a lot of techno blade videos. I was struck watching this that TB's dad is only a few years older than I am. Very sobering.

I read the paper but came away feeling that their attempts to find something quantitative failed. The graphs didn't particularly correlate with the periods of decline and downfall and my guess is that if you showed the researchers the

Thanks, that sounds very cool. As you say, intellij basically hands this off to gradle or maven. Does Eclipse interpret those natively or do you have to reproduce your maven build in the Eclipse gui?

Good summary of the language-level changes here: https://piotrminkowski.com/2021/02/01/new-developer-friendly... ETA: actually if you haven't used it since 1.6 you'd want to find an article on Java

I think the Streams designers did an amazing job. One of my favorite things about modern Java. Yes, it's more verbose than Python list comprehensions, but it's both higher-performance (parallelism that just works) and more produ

I've seen a lot of authors I respect say how great PJ was, but satire tends to go stale. If I wanted to read him today for the first time without nostalgia-tinted glasses, what should I start with? I was not able to find such a list

I also thought anyone could learn to code at at least a basic level, until I worked for a year as a computer science instructor, including for the big intro class for freshmen. Some people's brains just aren't wired for it. (And t

I've been using resilio sync for years without corruption. If you're seeing corruption across half a dozen different systems, I wonder if you might have a hardware problem.

One of the graphs shows ZGC with almost 50% more overhead (in heap space) than G1, which could very well take some applications from "works fine" to "broken." So I can see why they'd leave it something to opt in to

How is the state of linux power saving (i.e., mobile battery life) in 2021? Last time I checked you could expect to get almost 2x the battery life on equivalent hardware with Windows or Mac OS.
