This is an excellent write-up and a great use-case for what S3+Lambda can do. As AWS offerings go, I believe Lambda has a tremendous upside and will be growing significantly over the next few years. I've been throwing a lot of my own

Re #2 - fully outsourcing development. I've seen this done successfully and as a matter of fact I was on the team that built the first MVP. I'm sure it's the exception and not the rule but it can be done if the team that'

A wholehearted +1 to this. Brennan's courses and newsletter have done quite a bit in opening me up to how to properly run a solo consulting business. He provides a huge amount of good information.

They certainly didn't have to get the support for 2.2.0 out on Christmas morning, but they (actually, Terence) did. https://twitter.com/hone02/status/548131759762968576 Although with Matz an employee I'm

Anywhere up and down the services chain (from solo freelancer to large consultancy) should do this. There's a cost to vetting potential clients and service providers in the form of time. The sooner you can tell whether everyone is on t

There are arguable shades of gray in those examples but the JSON one and this one: > X says - Lets make those by copy-pasting - and later we will think about making it generic ... are pretty ill-informed. That just reeks of sloppy and la

If you present it as a commodity, they will treat it as such. "A website" is a thing. "A tailored solution to help your business do X" is not.

I think the space is growing, especially in the rails world where it's been stagnating for so long. There's discourse, forem and I've even just released my own at http://www.thredded.com (source at http://github.com/jayroh/thredded ) It'

Keymaster has stagnated a bit, that's correct, but it's still a pretty quality piece of work. I'm using it for my own keyboard shortcut (jquery) plugin here : http://joeloliveira.com/chaves.js/demo/defaults.html The goal of my plugin isn'

Guys, I think a lot of you are missing the point. The purpose of this, I believe, is somewhat akin to climbing Mt Everest. It's there, he wanted to see if he could do it. He did it. Comparing this to flash, or arguing why it doesn't work i

Anyone else noticing that Github is becoming synonymous with "Git" - like kleenex is to tissues and xerox is to copying machines? Crag do you mean GITHUB, the website and service, overall, or just GIT the version control system?

Between modernizr and the google font loading engine it's pretty easy to handle the FOUT issue. It's a pain in the ass, but manageable after a little tinkering.

Overall this is one of the best top-down looks at the "roles" front-end developers can fit into. However, the point I'm so apt to obsess over is that people (who hire) can't get it that these differences exist ... so I'm compelled to enc

The question now is - how difficult is it to replace a regular hd in this generation of Macbooks? In my 3yr old laptop it was a manageable, although a bit stressful, to pull out the hd and replace with an SSD.
