I am working on a SaaS ad server, it has much of what you want but doesn't have full self-checkout and self-service just yet. It does reduce the rest of the work though so if you are interested drop me a line (in my profile).

I think it's about the freedom to work on what you want mixed in with the ambition to build something great. I care more that what I am building makes an impact on people and businesses than if I get super rich, but they usually go hand in

Never ever Rentacoder. Most people don't care that much at what time you work on something if you can show you deliver on time and make yourself available for the occasional call during the day. People worry about moonlighting when you have

I think it's a very interesting idea, but I definitely see your problem of how to get initial content. I think a good niche would be programmers of a certain language, maybe ruby, javascript (or even just jQuery). Try to hire a couple of th

It's easy to solve that problem, work from home. I work 10-12 hours most days but I see my daughter all the time because I work from home and we get to eat three meals together and play after dinner.

I did this a couple times last year and found it to be a huge distraction, sure it was great to get a good cash infusion but when I look back I realize that I lost probably 2 months of progress on my startup because of the distraction. I am

Very cool, I am glad to hear you are filtering. It was still pretty easy to find a rails app categorized as javascript though: http://github.com/flyerhzm/rails-bestpractices.com What would trigger that to be JS? CKEditor maybe not on the

GitHub classifies LOTS of projects as JavaScript when they are actually more correctly categorized as C#, Ruby, or another language. My guess is that this occurs because smaller web projects that include a number of JavaScript libraries end

When you value your time at $0 lots of things seem cheaper. For $131 a month on CloudFront you get a better CDN than you are going to build and avoid all the sysadmin headaches, syncing headaches, etc.

If an authorized end user (meaning they have a valid signed URL) is ripping the content I don't see a way anyone could stop that. If nothing else I could easily just record my screen with a screen capture program. :)

It most definitely does. You can authenticate using a token that only allows access via that url for a set period of time and also from a set range of IPs. edit for link: http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AmazonCloudFront/latest/De...

At TekPub we use Amazon's CloudFront, it includes streaming (using Adobe's streaming server) and also allows for authenticated content. We do about 1-3 TB a month through it with basically no issues and pay less than $500/month even at the

I'm definitely busy, but its all about who you are targeting. Most web apps now are competing with most of the big companies in some way or another.

My current project competes with Google, AOL, Microsoft, and about 20 other companies... but I think there is a great niche they are under-serving that I am working on targeting. In existing markets you can almost always improve on the exis

AAPL has been very good to me as well, I bought in at $73.25 in 2006. I bought more in 2009 right around the 3gs announcement at $140.66. Then in 2010 when the iPad was announced I bought a couple of times (especially when it went below 200
