This is one of my favorite things about Rails and the Ruby/Rails ecosystem. Removing features is viewed as a good thing. You might have to install a simple plugin but for all the users who don't need it that's a bit of code that they don't

I haven't used Eclipse much, but when I did it felt pretty similar to Visual Studio.

Having used Visual Studio for 10 years and even written a book on it I can say I am totally tired of this huge and bloated IDE and can't wait until I am done with .NET work or MonoDevelop is good enough to switch. (it's getting close)

I had the same problems with SQS and ended up using RabbitMQ and haven't had any problems. The main issue I saw with SQS was a couple seconds on unavailability every couple of days, enough that I had to start writing lots of client code to

The only downside I see on the email part is that it required an opt-in from the subscriber side. I understand why it's there, but it could be confusing and limiting for people who want to use this as part of their SaaS app. You would have

We just do Skype, meeting up face to face would be great but I chose people I knew over location (we are currently spread across Michigan, Ohio, and North Carolina).

A couple other founders and I do something we call the "Bootstrappers Scrum". It's every week on Monday and we cover what we are working on, what we have gotten done, and then talk about any tough decisions or ask for advice. We have been d

Mongo should be fast enough that you don't need to use memcached. It uses memory mapped files (which is also important to know since by default it only flushes data to disk every 60 seconds)

When did Firefox turn into Netscape? What I loved about Firefox was how it was lean and simple to use. If it wasn't for a handful of add-ins I would have switched to Chrome or Safari by now... and it's only a matter of time until those add-

backorders almost never ever work, especially if the domain has any value. First off if the domain is somewhere like GoDaddy, even if you have a back order with GoDaddy, it will first go to their auction system before actually expiring. Thi

This is surprising, I remember meeting the founder and the Red Gate guys out at Business of Software 2009. They seemed very passionate and committed (I kept hoping they would use a marketing idea I suggested). One thought might be that they

Partition Tolerant really means that it doesn't rely on replication/sharding which means something like Cassandra that is truly distributed.

I could be wrong but it seems like MongoDB isn't really partition tolerant since it relies on replication or sharding (just like an RDMS). I think it is more of an AC (with a caveat on the C)
