"Objective" just means "factual." There can still be an objective analysis, it's just that different things are better for different people, so the analysis has to be done on a per-person basis. What is objectively

Actually, it's not excusable to have issues in the kernel or UI. I just brought up the kernel thing because I was pandering to someone inventing poor excuses for MS. I shouldn't have pandered.

I disagree. Basic UI issues are not excusable for a company with the resources of Microsoft. If we were talking about issues in a brand new kernel, maybe. But not basic UI issues.

I would like to see these used in the US to break the telco monopoly stranglehold. Of course it's likely the FAA/FCC would make sure not to let that happen. edit: I mean same tech, but not deployed by Facebook.

Used to? Do you not have plenty of water now? That would surprise me. Unless you're talking about one specific urban area, in which case it would still surprise me but not as much.

Water is plentiful in many places. Where I come from, you can't dig a hole in your yard deeper than about one foot, because it'll fill in with water. I guess you just don't like the facts. Separately, you aren't going to

Water is free, if you take it out of the ground yourself. Lots of people where I live (North Carolina) have wells. Like Nestle, I could also go up to BC and take water out for free. By the way, if you don't like it, you can always join

That makes sense, but that's not how I interpret "nobody wants to see new physics" in the ancestor comment. (But who knows.) I mean, wouldn't it be really frustrating to find out the law of conservation of momentum is no

I have an X1 Carbon thinkpad. It's not a problem at all to carry around---very light and thin. I have separate mouse+monitor setups in different places (e.g. office, home). So I just plug it in wherever I am. I keep the monitor and mou

Opposing "speech policing" is standing up for open speech. It is not a variant of "speech policing." To claim that it is is just nasty verbal trickery. It's exactly like one person saying "Criminals use guns to

To point out that there is a modern practice that is similar is relevant to the conversation and not particularly inflammatory. The proper way to converse on HN is to address the content of the comment, not complain that it exists, like

US is a third world country with a first-world layer on top. A more concrete difference is that there are a lot of people in the US with guns and bad attitudes. (A lot of Americans don't know it because the layers don't mix much.)

That map is so bad because the "spectrum" of colors goes from lighter to darker to lighter to darker. So it's not much of a spectrum. (Still, thanks for providing the link.)

You seem to be assuming a notion of continual human progress. In a few hundred years, we'll probably be in another Dark Age, judging by current trends. We're like the Roman Empire in 200 AD. Progress is the exception, not the rule
