thiswebhost.com appears to be hosted on LiquidWeb's servers, which makes me think it might be a reseller account for Sonet7 (reseller hosting owned by LiquidWeb). I know a couple of people who resell white-label cPanel hosting, and it's def

I hate to say it, but when you go with bargain basement hosting, you're often going to get bargain basement quality. I'm sure we've all heard horror stories of shared hosting providers, but personally I've had one just completely disappear,

It's doubly worse at a porn company. People already half-expect you to be scamming them somehow, and come into it with apprehension if not outright hostility. The upshot is when you give them amazing customer service, they turn into instant

This doesn't just bug me for URLs that are shorter than the t.co URL, but also when I'm posting a link to a website and I want people to see the full URL. e.g. It is often sufficiently descriptive to tweet "This is a great site: http://act

I use MacVim. Keyboard navigation works great for me when moving around small areas, but I use the scrollwheel and clicking all the time for moving around larger areas of a file (and for navigating NERDtree).

This might sound kind of trivial, but the lack of split panes (and no hope on the horizon) is what finally pushed me over the edge to learning vim. Haven't looked back :)

You have to consider two things though: 1) They pay good salaries. 2) They are not seeking an exit strategy, and this is merely a "just in case" scenario. I would guess that most technical and executive hires come to the company with full k

This might be taking a step back toward fluff from programs like WriteRoom, but I really like typing up blog posts with OmmWriter: http://www.ommwriter.com/en/ It's just relaxing. Edit: The site makes it look like it's only for iPad at fi

I have no idea whether or not pg is a prude. What I meant was that it's a hyper-competitive, highly saturated market and most porn companies these days are "innovating" with traffic generation and content, and not with technology or novel b

It's hard to imagine YC funding a porn company, but I will say from experience that there are worse jobs than being a programmer at a porn company. Aside from the fun parties and social work atmosphere, it can be very technically challengin

Pretty nice, but I actually do really like having gemsets. It gets me as close to the production environment as possible, plus it makes it really easy to clean up unused gems when I'm done with a project.

I think maybe on a macro level, but microbial life seems likely to be pretty similar to ours. Even on a macro scale though, I imagine you'd probably see some of the same themes (assuming an Earth-like planet): photosynthesis, bilateral symm

With homebrew I didn't even have to do that, since the Lion upgrade leaves /usr/local and launchd alone. The only rough spot I had was installing the App Store version of XCode, because I was a dumbo and installed the beta version of XCode

While I've tried using various distros of Linux as my primary OS (and I used to really love hacking and tweaking my UI like crazy), I'll say that nowadays I want an environment that I can hack on when I need to, but that I rarely need to h
