I don't know if it's worth getting into the high-level programming vs. low-level programming debate. A good buddy of mine is a hardcore game programmer and we both give each other crap. He says I'm not a "real programmer", and I tease him a

In case you haven't seen a 64k intro, "Chaos Theory" by Conspiracy is probably the coolest and most impressive one I've ever seen (fullscreen it in 720p for maximum awesomeness): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfuierUvx1A I think it's pro

Or maybe they weren't homeless? Giving unsolicited food to homeless people is sort of like asking a woman when the baby is due. It's also important to remember that they may be homeless but many homeless people still have their pride and fe

I've always seen karma as more of a net effect than a mystical thing. In practical terms, paying the toll of the person behind you may not directly propagate to tolls being paid. However, the recipients are going to be just that much happie

This reminds me of the time back when I used to post on Something Awful, when SA members put together a fund to buy armor plating for a member who was going to Iraq and his platoon. http://www.somethingawful.com/d/news/update-from-frontlin

It also doesn't cost "hundreds of thousands, if not millions" of dollars to get a contractor to develop a garage sale-finding app. I mean, I could build a pretty amazing garage sale-finding app for that much, but I think Brandon Tennant eit

The new Case Middle School buildings at Punahou (my alma mater) use something like that, but on a smaller scale. They freeze water at night when electricity is cheaper and then use it for cooling during the day. http://en.wikipedia.org/wik

I love this hackery and I'll definitely mess around with it, but in the end it's probably easier just to use the media keys on my keyboard. I don't necessarily feel a huge need for vim to do everything , or I would have switched to emacs i

From what I can gather, 3D game artists tend to start with high-res models and then reduce the poly count, so it may not be THAT much of a problem. I think it's because a lot of the modeling takes place in more organic editors now.

Your typical porn customer will pay for even crappy porn and a crappy site, but we're trying to get at least some of the people who wouldn't normally pay and let the other companies fight over the people who click random junk traffic links.

Marking emails as spam willy-nilly can hurt legit companies. I generally only do it if I didn't opt-in, or if they don't provide a one-click unsubscribe or ignore the unsubscribe request. It's good karma to not be a dick.
