What I mean is writing a desktop application without falling back to using C# for all the front-end code and relegating F# to being a glorified DSL for data processing. Microsoft doesn't believe anyone wants to make apps in F#; Visual

I literally know of only a single pure F# application tutorial on the internet, Scott W.'s Calculator, and the style reads more like Java than any idiomatic FP code I've ever seen. There's scattered bits here and there elsewh

It's interesting to see that a lot of the respondents wrote basically the same thing I did: the documentation for actually making even a simple application in pure F# is basically non-existent.

Wow. That is almost exactly my life story right now (three years of cinema studies, had to drop out for financial reasons, now trying to teach myself code and sorta succeeding at it but feel grossly unqualified). Thank you for posting.

And of course, XNA itself is essentially deprecated now, and isn't capable of targeting Metro either. A number of devs have started switching to MonoGame, but the support there isn't quite complete yet.

It's not necessarily that the two concepts never shall meet; Racket, Heresy, and F# all contain for loops, but there are crucial differences in how the former two handle them vs. how for loops are usually used in other languages. In mo

I wrote a short piece on the history of the MECC, complete with instructions on how to setup to play Apple II Oregon Trail in your browser some years ago for a gaming site. It's still up here: http://www.colonyofgamers.com&#

I can't make AdSense revenues from a Twitter account. In fact, if Twitter or Facebook suspect I'm a professional concern rather than simply an ordinary Joe, they may expect me to pay them money to promote my content, or even to ma

This kind of use-case is actually part of why I started using Flipboard in the first place, back when I had an iPad. I could consolidate my social media feeds into a "magazine" and just skim the highlights.

Certainly I wouldn't use it for blogging (as I said, the default HTML output is pretty spartan), for that I have Frog, which I mostly just tweaked a little bit with a custom Bootstrap template. The bulk of my writing though has traditi

Honestly, if you can use Word or LibreOffice, you can already use LyX. It's that easy. I have one short free work published, and a couple of unpublished works still in production, and I've also used it to generate documentation fo
