As a side note, there is also a push to change the name of an important knitting technique, Kitchener stitch, which was named in honor of the General.

Cochlear implants actually are kind of miracle devices. With early implementation, deaf children can have perfect speech and pretty good hearing (not perfect). We are at the point where denying your child speech and hearing is a choice. My

Deaf children can be taught to speak by very explicitly demonstrating tongue/throat position. It's a pretty arduous process and has fallen out of favor, so most deaf people who don't get a cochlear implant will use sign langu

You can get over-the-ear hearing aids in plenty of colors. This is not where the gap lies.

Very similar situation here (except both my husband's father and mother live with us). Yes, there's occasional friction, but we make it work. My father-in-law makes dinner, gets the kid on and off the bus, runs the errands, etc. A

I'm glad he's still doing the Lateral podcast (as that's the only thing I know him from). I do wish he would get somebody besides Youtubers as guests, though. It's frustrating to hear 20-somethings with very little cultu

You're discounting the time you spend waiting for your order to be prepared. I now pretty much exclusively get lunch at places that have online ordering, because I can order before I leave the house and it's ready when I get there

They sent me the wrong item, and now I not only don't have the item I ordered, but have to take a trip to the UPS store to send this thing back. Extremely frustrating! I also received an item that was shattered in transit and had to se

It was explained to me that they have to do the "tour" model (which is a minimum of 1 year, up to 4 years) because it is the only way they can bypass the usual lengthy government hiring process.

There did used to be one like this and I can't for the life of me remember the name of it. My friend didn't meet her husband on it, but she did meet her future husband's roommate.

Having worked on a couple of these projects, the new design system is being implemented as new systems are built or when upgrading tech on older systems. I don't think anybody is doing an overhaul just to implement the design system, b

Poorly calibrated hearing aids actually can damage your hearing (even worse than it was). It’s sending highly amplified noise directly into your ear drum.

That isn't quite the conclusion the article draws though. Most people would interpret "positive/negative" impact as meaning whether the badge will help or hurt you in your job search. Instead, the article evaluates wheth

Ugh, good luck. I do currently have a job, so I've decided to just drop out of this game for a bit. It's too frustrating to waste my time.

In that scenario, I doubt they would go all the way to discussing the offer and how they can shape the role for me. Also, I'm in design, which has less of an H1B presence. I think the org just decided at the final moment that they didn

Even worse, I've had two instances in the past few months of going through the entire interview process, being told that they just need to make the final decision or put together an offer, and then having the job disappear. One of thos

Thank you for this. There are multiple comments in this thread saying exercise is the "silver bullet," but if you have a severe anxiety disorder, it often isn't. I am much less anxious on the days I don't exercise. I sti

A couple of years ago, I started a light meditation practice (10-20 minutes) and did it for about a month with good results. At that point, I read this article (on Hacker News) and spent the next two years terrified this would happen to me.

I'm curious about this. If everything in a design file is aligned left, do you need an annotation on each object telling you that it is aligned left?

This is one of the funniest things I have read in a long time. I used to work for a Japanese company and was surrounded by anime fans who had fantasies of learning the language. I was perfectly happy to work with our translators.

Do you mean that you are forgetting to increase/decrease at the right points? As mentioned, stitch markers will help, as will a good row counter. Of course, you will still have to remember to increase your row counter at the end of eac
