I'm not qualified to give much of an opinion on epigenetics, but I do find it interesting how it is talked about in popular culture, and I think it's good for us to be careful about that. At my last employer, we had a diversity tr

Dang, this did give me a panic attack. The sort of thing OP describes is my greatest fear, and I have a hard time dealing with the fact that it really happens to some people.

Oh, I agree. And I'll take muted colors over no colors at all. I do love me some bright Ikea-style colors though, even though they are more difficult to coordinate properly.

The trend the article discusses is using colors that are tones, meaning a hue mixed with gray. So it's not just that a lot of things are gray, it's that even the things that are colored have a gray-ish cast.

The trend of gray tones in consumer goods brings to mind the Puritan rule of wearing only "sadd colors." Perhaps we are experiencing a new wave of Puritan chic? From the book Albion's Seed : "The taste of New England ra

The other alternative is that this is not actually true. I’m having trouble finding any evidence that intelligence is correlated with depression.

I have come to believe that social interaction is like exercising or eating your vegetables. Some people naturally enjoy it; some people don’t. Either way, you will be a healthier person if you do it.

Many people, if you ask them if they want a gift, will say no just to be polite. In this scenario, if somebody said "I'd like to take care of the lawn for you if that would be helpful," I would deny the request because I woul

Your final statement seems a bit contradictory to me. If the client can't hire employees for certain work, doesn't that increase their reliance on consultants (and reduce the chance you'll get cut)?

The one specific person I saw that was laid off today was in their bike-share division, so it apparently is involved in the layoffs.

I would like to see more discussion of the role of SSRIs in treating anxiety, rather than depression (which always seems to be the default focus). I also suffered from panic that went away completely with SSRIs. I have never had issues with

I appreciate how they lay out the challenges they have faced, which gives me more confidence in their projected timeline. I am curious if somebody with a conventional implant would be able to reimplant with this new technology. It seems lik

I'm guessing you weren't a female teenager. I had a very similar schedule to the person you're responding to, except our high school started at 7:25. I'd take a little extra time in the morning just to get my head togeth

When I upgraded to Monterey, my AirPods started giving me robot voice on any call. It appears to be a conflict with my Logitech keyboard and mouse. I’ve switched to USB connection for those, but it’s not an ideal solution.

I'm curious what you consider to be the bad consequences of recalling your dreams? I remember at least one dream every night and enjoy going back over any of them. I especially like that I can identify a dream as the cause if I wake up

Yes, I have gotten nearly every one of my jobs by applying through a website. If you're applying for roles that are a reasonable fit, you have a decent chance of getting a response.

I hate this one. The other one that gets me is "Tell me about a time where a team member was underperforming. What did you do?" I think the correct answer to this is to get on their ass about it or rat them out to their manager. I

We had to wear those, too. Our son is deaf, so he would just scream as loud as he possibly could. I knew that I would end up with hearing loss also if I didn’t protect myself.
