Yeah it’s striking whenever I visit again. I guess there’s that famous quote about Australians being the descendants of not just criminals but also jailers which makes sense. Germans tend to obsess over rules and processes in bureaucratic c

Our backend at work does use a read replica purely for websockets. I always wondered if it was overkill, I’m not a backend developer, though.

Yeah, we still leverage UICollectionView a lot even in SwiftUI as there’s no suitable replacement, grids have a bunch of downsides still right now.

One big advantage here is you can “eject” at any point and have two functioning, normal native apps. If you’re talking about scaling a team then you can simply eject and hire for each platform if you outgrow the tool.

Australia is definitely one of the most rule-obsessed countries, even in comparison to Germany, where I’ve lived for the last decade or so. Parts of my parent’s house back home are heritage listed, some rules make sense and some are bizarre

Great work. Cool to see this here, I’ve been meaning to try it. We have two large Swift apps at work that wouldn’t be a good fit but I’ll check it out for a side project. The bulk of our Swift code is actually non-ui code as we have a somew

Your server will likely occasionally have to restart regardless of whether you migrate or not. Maybe you could look at using Redis to store your game state. I think Heroku has a free add on.

I've haven't written JS in a long time – are engines like V8 smart enough to roll the filter and map into a single loop? Otherwise wouldn't a reduce be more efficient there?

Perhaps, but I'm not even sure this strategy really works anymore.

It's not as good as Flutter/RN hot reload but SwiftUI previews do make this a lot better.

There probably won't be a cross-platform UI layer and many Apple frameworks won't work, although apparently the Foundation Swift rewrite already works. For a lot of companies though, simply being able to share business logic will

I think Skip is doing a lot of this via transpilation, so I think you're expected to still write a lot of Android / Kotlin code.

There's been a lot of work on this in the last few years with Windows support, preliminary Android support is also being worked on and should appear at some point in Swift 6.

Yeah I've done something similar, I just buy and read the go-to books on the topic I want to know about now. Although I somtimes slip and end up scrolling through some news sites, I've churned through a lot of actual books related

I know you're joking but I've worked in very engineering-heavy startups where this was the case and almost everyone had to write some code, production or not.

Solar panels and batteries don’t typically use rare earth metals. Wind turbines do use small amounts and are probably the harder of the two to recycle currently.

The idea that you can reduce the complexity of global fishing, farming and marine ecosystems to a zero sum system is flawed. Whales cycle nutrients when they eat phytoplankton and aren’t comparable to human activity, you’re just trying to d
