NICE DCV is a good alternative if you don't mind paying. I've found the image quality, latency and multi-monitor support to be better than NoMachine. You can get a permanent licence for $180. https://www.nice-dcv.com T

Does it have a harbour with sufficient cranes to offload it, and a good enough road to transport it out? And if you're going to need 4 trucks to get it out of the port anyway, might as well just drive it there. Sorry, no idea why I

I had always wanted to port Mellanox drivers to macOS to get away from paying through the nose for ATTO cards. Great news that Apple have already done it! Mellanox ConnectX 6 Lx is pretty cheap in comparison to ATTO.

Agreed, I bought a 2017 VW Golf recently, it has wired Apple CarPlay. Bought a dongle for £55, works fine. Love having a car with a steering wheel with real buttons, and climate controls with real knobs. It feels like around 2018 is the zen

Ultimately they build command buffers and send them to the GPU. You'd need a way to do that from macOS. The original Mesa drivers for the M1 GPU were bootstrapped by doing just that, sending command buffers to the AGX driver in macOS u

I'd love a first-class WebKit-based browser on Linux. I have looked recently, am I missing one? Gnome Web is a like a Fischer-Price browser.

Just wanted to concur that this is a great app. I first discovered it on holiday in Zakynthos. I wanted to identify what bird was making such a loud, clear call at dusk. Searched for bird call apps and found Merlin, which analysed a recordi

Wireshark supports this natively. Look at the `SSH remote capture: sshdump`. https://www.wireshark.org/docs/man-pages/sshdump.html Wireshark can SSH into the remote machine, perform the capture, then show the pack

We sell systems based on these high-end workstations and yes they do run Linux, Rocky Linux 8 at the moment. Still stuck on Xorg because reasons, but for HDR monitoring you're usually using a display interface card with SDI or HDMI out

macOS has IOSurface [0], so it can be done there too. It would require someone to implement it for GTK. [0] https://developer.apple.com/documentation/iosurface

It may be true, but anyone who's still running missing-critical applications on those machines won't migrate to Linux. If they moved to Linux they'd surely just dump the hardware too.

If you have two children under 5 you could easily be £2k in childcare for both of them. And £2k probably doesn't even cover 5 days a week for two kids. I daren't think about what it'd cost if you had 3 kids under 5 years old!

Yes same here. I did install then uninstall Avahi Linux a year or so ago, but now I can't upgrade past 12.6. I'll need to get an external drive, back everything up, then do a DFU restore on my M1 Max MBP to get it upgraded to Sono

To target stuff that old I'd try MPW. I used to use Codewarrior back in the day, but these days I prefer MPW, as its more like developing on modern macOS/Linux.

On Rocky Linux 8, I had to change GRUB_TERMINAL_OUTPUT to "gfxterm", then it would pickup the GRUB_THEME value. My kid uses Grub all the time to reboot into Windows to play Minecraft Bedrock Edition, this will boggle his mind.
