I wouldn't say that was brown exactly, but I know exactly what you mean with big ecommerce platforms and all kinds of other vertical-market software. It can take months or even years to learn all of the tricks. That being said, it is

I too had always felt that sysinternals was a champion of Microsoft and Windows. Perhaps there were some politics going on that only Microsoft employees would know? Every system has pros and cons and learning how to work with those constrai

It seems to me the curse of any company or project that begins with controversy or edginess as a cornerstone of their image. It's easy to have a f--- it all attitude when there's nothing on the line. As the company grows, people&

I was curious about the diagnostic code mentioned * # 0 * # I tried it and the phone did seem to go into some diagnostic mode and showed "please wait" for about 5 seconds, then just stopped with "Unknown Error" Sad.

Usually when I start getting a ton of kernel panics, I suspect hardware - bad memory or hard drive. Just had an iMac doing that last month and it was indeed the hard drive. Anecdotal information is not particularly helpful but I have had a

People with children are of course telling you that you are naive but I think your point of view is just as valid as anybody else's. If you have a very low overhead, and don't develop a taste for expensive things then you can live

I'd like to say that I come for the content/community and the design doesn't matter. Obviously HN is not really known for it's cutting-edge design. But I have to agree that MetaFilter just has a very old, dusty look to

I would only want to start with an opening price if I was fairly certain what the offer range would be. Without that info you may just hard-bargain yourself a lower salary. If you ask for something that is totally out of line with the exp

It seems like it would be easy for Apple to add a confirmation like "Open in App Store?" Just like clicking on a phone number and have a confirmation before it starts dialing. Perhaps it's advantageous for Apple to keep it a

You could also wind up at a job where your personality and views are appreciated and you don't have to hide your true feelings from anybody. I realize the point is about invasion of privacy, but there are places that are looking for n

I can't believe that Apple isn't blocking the ability for the browser to auto-open the app store. It's the absolute worst advertising experience imaginable because it actually closes the browser to open the app store. My resp

Agreed - fantastic news for PHP in general. As far as Wordpress, in my experience the number of db queries is really a bigger problem than the PHP processing. A factory-default install with no plugins runs 30 queries on every home page loa

I'm not expressing any opinion on the death penalty itself but I found it odd that his execution was "botched." The crime he was convicted of committing 15 years ago was a "botched" murder where the gun malfunctione

An option not listed here is that I think I have bursts of massive productivity that last a few days to a week where I get intensely productive work done with barely a break to eat. 12, 16 hours per day. Then I go a week or so just doing

I feel like there is this vibe out there that if you don't use emacs then you're some kind of inferior developer who has to rely on tools to do his/her work. That perpetuates a myth that everybody of significance is using it
