Install uBlock Origin and do it every day! I block all JavaScript, then re enable it when needed to fix a site. Often I just need to enable 1st party scripts in the uBlock Origin grid to fix it. Make sure you enable advanced mode to see the

I wonder about that figure of 70% of people not wanting to pay $1/year to block ads. Everyone who wants to block ads uses an ad blocker. Those who don't care about ads don't bother to install one or ask their friends/fam

MapQuest feels a bit strange with the huge amount of advertising. I'd much rather pay.

Yep! There are a bunch of Libraries that integrate with OpenStreetMap, see the "Libraries for Developers" section: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Android Mapbox also has Android implementations, not sure

Just click the edit button on https://www.openstreetmap.org/ , I find the interface quite nice. It's quite addictive! That being said, I don't know of a similarly easy to use editor on Android for simple things lik

I think the problem is users don't want to pay and have their data scrutinized for ads. It would be like if you paid Facebook and still had your data going to many third parties. I think Mapbox has a very different reputation for this

Mapbox's maps look great, though I wish they had a generic product like Google Maps that I could use. Does any such general navigation app using Mapbox exist? Basically a vector OpenStreetMap with good search and routing.

In Sydney, Australia there is a $109 fine for cycling on a footpath (for those 13 and older), and a $319 fine for not wearing a helmet. That means a 13 year old trundling down a 5 meter wide footpath to the local shops on Sunday morning is

They're not interested in bad public transport. Why catch a bus when it is caught in the same traffic as a car? When a bus is faster than a car, including the last mile time - hopefully people will make the rational choice. This is why

Interesting point, though if there were buses every few minutes with no congestion why didn't you use them?

For a correct comparison, you would have to combine the 5 car traffic lanes into one to compare throughput to the bus lane. My previous image looks like maybe 500m, so say 2.5km long line of cars. Cars can't travel that close together.

I wish it was politically possible to make more dedicated bus lanes. When I see a couple of private cars blocking 3 buses with ~100 people in each I get so angry. From a utilitarian point of view bus only lanes are a no-brainer, at least in

Do you drive rather than use public transport? When I've headed out somewhere new with friends and ended up in a strange place at 1am, Google Maps public transit directions are my lifeline. If I drove I could just head in the rough dir

I've always wanted to make an electric bike out of an electric drill and their batteries. Very easy to source parts, could buy second hand. Could even just friction drive the wheel with the drill!

In my opinion Containers are the best thing in Firefox. I'm sacrificing battery life just so I can use them on my Mac. I finally feel free to search for whatever I want and not have second thoughts.

These aren't technology problems, they are social and political problems. > To feel like they actually have a family instead of being increasingly isolated. There is no app for that, and I don't know if there should be.
