I am elitist against people who judge ideas on the scale of which one is most politically correct. I don't understand how they get anything done in life without giving their brain room to think . For example, a founder having trouble

Anyone who accuses anyone of being X-phobic is laughable. Rational people ought to be able to debate - sparring through facts, hypotheses, and argument - without walking on eggshells. Dispassionate debate is a far better mechanism to find t

The Soviet Union was based on equality too. The problem is that some bureaucracies produce an equally shitty product for everyone.

It's far less economically distorting to top up a family's income with an EITC than by mandating higher wages. For one thing, it avoids giving employers incentive to cut back on labor costs.

SF is the place to be because of the glorification of the young engineer. If you're hiring people around 25 y.o., SF is the place to be to win the talent war. But engineers with kids can't live there. If you're hiring enginee

It does seem that YC companies have moved away from the "give some service away on the internet for free" model that used to predominate. Most of these seem like they are filling real needs.

In the political world price is a feature, not a bug. You will not pass any proposal through congress that significantly lowers the price of a quality education, say through technology. If the government is giving out $800 billion/yr,

You're a very special case, going to one of the best schools in the country at a good price. 3/4 of American college students are not traditional college students going full time to a four-year university. And only 30% of American

My bet is that Elon could build the Hyperloop closer to budget than the state of California could build a traditional train. Leadership matters.

Jaded libertarian here - I'm pretty sure the Supreme Court interprets the Constitution with the help of a Ouija board, a fifth of whisky, an intern dressed as lady liberty, cryptic signs hidden in the music of Katy Perry, and Alito

In practice, this seems to be a large part of what Western governments do. There's nothing the West loves to do so much as meddling in other people's affairs and bringing the blessings of democracy to people that never wanted it.

Families are socialist. So are some small native tribes. Large scale socialism by force tends to be a bit dystopian, though. They don't build walls to keep people out of socialist states.
