This really hit me — I spent a long time (several iterations) designing my perfect blogging static site generator, and wrote a few posts about my journey of creating the tool. After those few posts, I’ve had lots of ideas for new ones but h

I had this problem too, so I don’t have any of my normal letter keys as dual-function. The pointer-finger vertical-middle keys that they default to Hyper and Meh, I changed those to both be Cmd on MacOS (would make them Ctrl on Linux). I se

You’re misunderstanding your cookie analogy. You can’t copyright a single recipe that contains components of other recipes, but if you had written a book titled “My grandmas chocolate chip cookies from scratch”, where the first recipe is fo

It’s actually not an anonymous account, I just can’t find the links anywhere for creating a community! I did just edit the above post to say that I figured out that you must follow a community to post to it. And thanks for getting back! :)

Hey! I made an account — this seems like an awesome idea, and I really like your vision. It seems like this format will really appeal to hacker-types with the idea for eventual federated + custom domain communities that can interact with ea

I totally get your point, but if an established tenant with a previously successful business cannot afford rent, then who could? It seems more like “well nobody is going to be able to rent it anyways, so we might as well keep the businesses

You keep saying this, but is the value of the property not what someone is willing to pay for it? If nobody can/will pay rent, the property is worthless. The risk you take on as a real estate investor isn’t just that of the property va

I went for an ergodox when covid WFH started, to prioritize ergonomics... Loved it so much that I got the hotdox kit from Alpaca to build a second one with better switches (I went with the Zealios 68g, could go on a whole rant about how muc

I firmly believe that if you have enough people who think it’s important enough to block traffic to make a point — if their belief is that aliens are coming to destroy earth — they’re allowed to do that. Sure, it’s illegal, but they’ll do i

Does that include phone payments at all? Because it sounds like you’re getting a not so great deal. I’m also in the US and pay that much for unlimited everything on 2 phones

I agree in some cases that the open source alternatives aren’t good enough, so I’ve done a mix of using things on this list, and switching to Apple alternatives (when needed). Got an iPhone, and using some of the Apple things has made it mu

If you already signed a lease, you don’t have to agree to new terms for that lease. It’s already a valid lease that can’t easily be terminated, and Michigan has pretty good renter protection laws (I used to live there). Not a lawyer though,

If you’re sure you can make $100m on your idea, it should be easy to find an investor to give you $2m. If you can’t find an investor to give you that much, maybe your idea is riskier than you thought and therefore not actually worth that mu

I’ve heard this idea before on HN in regards to reforming patent law also. I LOVE this idea. Pay a small tax on the stated value, but also allow others to buy rights at that stated value. When filing for a patent or copyright, say “I believ

Question though: would companies just move to Brazil, which doesn’t have UBI, and save all of the money from the now-even-more-expensive American workers? Maybe not immediately, if there are more skilled workers in the US than Brazil, but o

Don’t forget that $1T of that total $4T is just spent on social security — this could potentially replace social security, so that number could go towards UBI instead I’m not sold on UBI but it does sound possible
