Wow. That video is mind blowing. Pure mercury is nowhere near as toxic nor dangerous as the Dimethylmercury from the other video.

Agreed. It’s clearly over the limit of things you care about. I don’t regret the couple of evenings I spent installing Yattee and Piped on my own server. Now I need not worry about YouTube. Over 10 years I’ll have saved enough to get a MacB

The whole anonymization of IP addresses by just hashing the date and IP is just security theater. Cryptographic hashes are designed to be fast. You can do 6 billion md5 hashes in a second on an MacBook (m1 pro) via hashcat and there’s only

I’ve never given YouTube or any ad sponsored website anything in return. Whether I use software or not, the last thing on earth I’ll do is watch your ad. Not done seen one for over 20 years and I intend to keep that streak.

It’s really good. I agree with the state pension comment. Maybe add as an additional income with a few settings set to suitable defaults - start age (66) - weekly amount (£203.85) - yearly increase (3%) I’m not super optimistic about the tr

Is there some kind of practical limit to renewable electricity production due to how difficult it is to store and its intermittent nature. My intuition tells me it can never quite be 100%. How wrong am I?

How would these extra territorial laws be enforced? I mean I break Chinese law all the time; I have a blog without the necessary permits delivered by the PRC bureaucracy. How is this UK law any different? Unless you have some kind of tie to

We need road safety. But no genius in gouvernement has created a law that’s says it’s illegal to sell cars that CAN have accident. Generally the government goes after bad drivers instead of car companies. I really don’t understand why Big T

Wow. I had no idea that was a thing. I thought that’s just something they do in movies. But I don’t have a mind’s eye either (aphantasia). So I guess that’s on brand for me. That doesn’t mean I can’t “talk to myself” in a way or think about

I think that's true for Social Security numbers in France/US, and National Insurance numbers in UK. About 15 years ago, after working in Germany I came back to France for a couple of years, the country where I was born / assi

Yeah. Looks like GitHub can’t deal with classic Mac line endings which is just the CR character. Windows uses CR+LF and MacOS X is using LF like most UNIX systems.

I’m skeptical about scaling this approach to accomplish real work. Could Mercury OS be used to write the HTML pages describing Mercury Os? What about the UX design? What about coding for it? It seems that for anything non trivial like this

My rule of thumb is to NEVER use a Microsoft account for anything unless I’m forced to. And then I’ll create a brand new account for each use case. I so regret converting my Minecraft account. The old Mojang stuff was so much more reliable.

I have to say foreign medias have no qualms mentioning Brexit as an aggravating factor. But local U.K. news would not even get near it, for fear of opening Pandora’s box once more. Even opposition parties (Labour) look the other way.

The vast majority do. Germany, Italy and France get a lot more refugees than the U.K. The few refugees that choose to cross the Channel do it because they have relatives or friends in the U.K. and take significant risks to cross the channel

It’s just made the App Store unusable. Even exact name search is fraught with peril. I just Google things instead now. I feel like this is what is going to happen for every product Apple will infest with ads.

The hubris. If the definition of time is modified to match the buggy giant code base I don’t want to touch then I have no work to do. Genius! It’s akin to saying I want 2+2=5 because my code happens to work that way and it’s hard to fix. If
