This post makes an important general point. Developers and management don't appreciate and respect upper-tier support people nearly enough.

It's the only Yahoo product I've spent a dime on. In fact, except for Netflix, I've spent more on Flickr than any other online service and I'm a cheap bastard. That said, I did downgrade and stop paying them last year.

And/or ice packs on the upper back. I did it for a while and felt like it made a difference. Then I fell asleep with an ice pack on my upper back and got a patch of mild frostbite.

Audio conference calls as just as bad. I noticed a long time ago that a lot of my co-workers, especially executives, never bother to set passwords on their conference calls, check who's on a call, or drop all the lines between back-to-back

A DSLR can solve the first two problems with manual focus and setting the white balance to a fixed value. The cat is more difficult.

Before 9/11 it was legal (per the FAA) to fly with a knife with up to a 4" blade. Some airlines limited blade length to 3". I regularly flew with a 3" folding knife. I could often walk through the metal detectors without even taking the kni

I carry a knife almost everywhere. I regularly carry a 3" lockback (Spyderco Caly 3) but don't usually let anyone know I have it. I was at a work conference a few years ago and that morning I decided not to carry it, partly because I would

Yes, it's a much simpler game than I'd expected. Except for the squishiness of the foam basketballs it sounds more like a game from 5-10 years ago to me.

No only one was programmed to balance in autonomous. They'd only ever done it with just their bot in the middle of the bridge, but they were able to balance with the other one on there because they just kept backing up until the gyro sensor

It's like that in FIRST Tech Challenge (the "JV" level of FRC). Unless the team somehow ends up with a kid that loves programming or has FIRST LEGO League alumni (their game is all pre-programmed autonomous), a lot of teams have little or n

I disable plugins in Chrome and only run Flash as-needed, mostly for video and occasionally for something like the Facebook photo uploader. Life without Flash is certainly possible today.

My daughter grew up with LEGO and still plays with them. She doesn't need pink or purple blocks or over-sized female figures. All she wants different is a few female minifigs once in a while. I don't think there is a single one in either ad

But you wouldn't even see those broadcasts without something listening for them, right? Not too many years ago a lot of these same use cases were talked about for irDA and didn't really go anywhere.

What about instead using a little base 2 to memorize? So 'b' can follow 'a' or 'o' and be followed by 'a', 'e', 'i' or 'o'. Take a as 16, e as 8, i as 4, o as 2 and u as 1. So if you memorized '18b30' you could decode that in your mind to t
