I know, but what is in even the biggest set of optional packages to reach 4GB? Fonts? Viewers and tools? Maybe it's just the old unix fart in me, but we've had entire OSs with many GUI apps in much less than 1GB.

How is LaTeX now 4Gb? I haven't touched it in years, but I can't fathom how it's grown so much.

My first iOS app's icon was a single bold white letter on a green background with the default Apple gloss. It's still my best-seller and not once has anyone complained about the cheapness of the icon. It stands out better than icons I spent

I wish I did but it's from a bunch of different posts. I wish it was easier to A / B test in the store but the daily traffic is so unpredictable and unmeasurable. I guess it could be tested on a landing page before hitting the iTunes store,

My current understanding of psychological price barriers, at least for mobile apps, is that once you're over the 99 cent barrier, there isn't much of a difference (at least to Americans with our $5 bill) between $1.99, $2.99 and $3.99. It's

We participate in a weekly promotion like that for kid-friendly mobile apps, Moms With Apps "App Friday". Every Friday there's a joint promotion of quite a few discounted and free educational apps. http://momswithapps.com/app-friday/

If you haven't used Appirater, the article doesn't make it clear that one way to use it is to only nag users for a review after they've hit a "significant event" like completing all the levels or improving their score or whatever.

Funny because the majority of homeschoolers I know teach canned curriculum. The only real advantage for a homeschooler like that is that they can select the best curriculum for their individual kid(s) rather than having to select it for a w

I know a teacher that has to regularly submit her hand-written lesson plans for the principal to review. That way the principal thinks she can be sure that the teachers are creating their own lesson plans late at night.

I know but the app store is full of apps with a short description after the actual short name. They've allowed all of mine. Just keep it short and reasonable and it's a way to get more keywords in.

Great job so far. I'm doing something similar - building a full-time income from the app store(s) - but I'm only two months into it. Are you considering raising the price on Debt Snowball+? It seems like it gives enough value to support a $

IBM had their own P/390 systems that basically put a mainframe on a PCI card to go in a PC or RS/6000 host. There were also the FLEX-ES systems that were Linux-based mainframe emulators running on Intel hardware. IBM sanctioned and allowed

Right, but what does "uses Facebook Login" mean? Can it be optional and still get in their App Center? They mention Pinterest but their app allows login via Twitter or their own account infrastructure. I guess we'll see.

That's not just startups where that happens. Senior developers, especially the "man in a box" geniuses that don't work well with anyone else are downright abusive of other developers (and God help the poor customer support or QA people that

It's not a store. There is no purchasing through Facebook (except for I guess apps that run on Facebook, rather than Android or iOS). It's just a user review site like hundreds of others except for the scale.

Your app name should be something like "Invy - pick a date with friends and family" instead of just "Invy". Makes it much easier for people to see at a glance what it is, especially from screens with lists of apps. I think it also gives you

My first app has been in the top 1000 of its category most of the time. Never made it to the top 200 yet (been to 203 and 205 - argh). That's with zero marketing budget, no external reviews (yet), and just keyword matches and the occasional

Right. If you build a game app, name it "Words Play" and your marketing strategy is to hope that people find it, you're playing the lottery - and losing. I have two apps and a third about to launch. One has kind of flopped so far - too wide

The top reason I'd think of? Most companies build the iOS version first then port it to other platforms. That's usually under tighter deadlines than the iOS version had and there's not much design flexibility. Just make it work almost ident
