Energy wouldn't be free, it may be vastly more abundant and for practical purposes free for "consumer uses", but not exactly free in the general sense. To print you also need raw materials, some of which may be more rare but in high demand

Just in this context of a political system, having a self-interested politician is less dangerous than having an idealistic one. Mind you, there are good and bad idealists, but their impact is greater; and since politicians generally are

The point is that greed is dependable and stable. If you can depend on something that won't ruin the economy or society, then at least that works as a guarantee against worse excesses. And let's face it, even large corporations have a stake

Or it may work to collect the remaining unbroken eggs into one basket. Maybe centralization is not the solution here. Europe has benefited from so-called "disunity". It made economic and scientific (and social) development possible, with no

The comparison should not be made between people who can be workers both under a union or outside of it, but rather between them and people who would be barred from employment altogether (at least in those specific instances).

The Moon is slowly moving away due to tidal interaction. If the Earth and Moon were tidally locked (both presenting the same face to each other at all times) then the orbit would remain stable. If the Earth would be spinning slower than the

How would you explain reddit's success, compared to digg? Reddit was basically developed by 2 people and has never had more than 3 devs behind it.

I haven't read a convincing argument on how such an entity would actually take over. She would have to be endowed with physical means, not just intelligence. She'd have to have humans do her bidding to a great extent and for a long time.

So far, the only real successful method of removing mosquitoes has been massive spraying of insecticide, along with draining swampland. The Panama Canal owes its existence to these efforts, for instance. Genetics may be a second way to do i

That instantly rules out ISO, does it not? I would disagree that a standard needs to be implemented explicitly, but it should be made available without restrictions. A standard may also include a comprehensive set of test cases.

As an employer, I would do my utmost to attend to these human problems, especially it's a valuable employee. However, the costs, opportunity-wise, still exist and we pay them, willingly or not.

Strictly on economic terms, how much of a discount would you get on a developer if he/she is likely to take 1-2 year off at some point? During that time, you have to hire another person, train them and then tell them to leave.

I don't understand why there are no SOHO-priced network-attached scanners. A simple scanner with ADF and a button, which stores files on the network. The pure hardware cost is nowhere near the $1K pricetag most of these devices have.
