When I was doing my sailing license one of the mandatory training thing was a 'person overboard' maneuver. And the very first thing you do is to designate someone from the crew to point (with a finger and arm extended) and look at

That's not it, X for Y sounds completely normal as in 'food for kids' or something. But I have read the title as if io_uring added support for libuv.

It's the same 'for' in the title that I don't understand in the 'Windows subsystem for Linux'. English is not my native language but it is only recently that I started to notice this usage of for. Has it always

I'm not sure I understand you correctly but in boolean logic it is super hard to be somewhere between truth and false. Fuzzy logic is what you're after

This is tangential at best but I was in Chicago,US once for a business trip and we had weekends off so we did some sight-seeing and one Sunday late afternoon we were close to Fermilab so we decided to take a look. The building was empty but

There is a Caspian sea in Asia, which is a lake to make it more clear. In the end, the disctinction based on size is a wonky one and makes no sense in the long run so I don't mind having large lakes that are bigger than some seas

The sheer number of scare quotes in this essay makes it very uncomfortable to read, and in the end, I don't think it says anything substantial about the concept of numbers. Even if you distill out the usual finite automata fillers

It may be a global minimum but it doesn't have to be. If it ends up in a local minimum then going to a global one would reduce the total energy of the system but it may require additional energy first to 'go over the bump'. I

The authors have this P=NP 'proof' for more than a decade. When the trisector comes[0] and offers you money for finding a mistake you are not going to see any money [0] http://web.mst.edu/~lmhall/WhatToDoWhenT

True, but the mandatory scheme to hand over your project to a vote also has consequences. The point it what's better overall and I don't think there is a clear and universal answer that works in all cases so we are left with the s

Isn't uint8 exactly what your 'integer[modulo 256]' is? And for unbounded you do need bignum and dynamic allocation so I'm not sure I see any benefits to explicitely fine-graining the range instead of using machine word

Recreational mathematics - you usually don't end up with large codebases and most is just a single file/single use code to test some number theory hypothesis or find an integer with some properties/find a counterexample.
