What is wrong with public transport? I understand in America it's not great, but having frequent, reliable, fast, clean & safe public transport is amazing. Public Transport in a lot of Western European countries are like that with

imo more common in the anglosphere that masters degrees are watered down these days. But top universities should have respectable programs still. The masters students at my current uni (ETH Zürich) are easily the best software engineers I h

I would argue Golang is the most restrictive because it doesn't have an escape hatch from its language features. Rust will get out of your way if you really want it to. It just gives you a seat belt because you are on the highway (writ

We don't have any restrictions now. We went from 100 to 0 and its spreading. I don't think there was even any density rules in my state, the nightclubs were packed on the 31st. Everyone I know who went clubbing on the 31st did en

At the same time though, opening up completely comes at hospitals being overwhelmed, supply chains breaking apart (already happened in my country). It is a bit of a paradox. There is no right action it seems, locking up doesn't make se

I am only at 4ish yoe (keep in mind I work casual since I am still studying full time so this isn't the same as full time experience) but I refuse to do leetcode style questions. If companies pass me up because of that, I am okay with

At least here in Australia, I don't believe comp sci grads really get the chance to use their knowledge. I did my masters at the University of Melbourne. If I stay in Australia I will almost certainly be doing pretty boring CRUD work,

Here is a unique language being developed at my university (The University of Melbourne) by Peter Schachte. I found it quite interesting as it aims to lower the barrier of entry to FP

I nearly doubled my salary when I jumped ship. Market is quite competitive for decent devs even if they are junior. And junior isn't always a good indicator on programming ability as well, my friend wrote a Pascal compiler in two days

Rust is bloody great, the type system is so good. My thesis code has a bunch of type conversions, I managed to emulate 'do' notation (Haskell) of sorts via the type system, but I can now also convert between types really easily.

I don't know, in my Master's degree, the quality of the people I study with is quite good, quite a few genius types, someone I know is now studying their PhD at ETH Zurich etc, this is a top #1 or #2 uni in my country though

90% confident programming languages will change to be more type safe, I'm going to say this is going to be where FP is now by about 2030. 50% chance of a new OOP language that incorporates a stronger type system to solve the problems o

It is not bad now, I would say now it is a good key value store, which is fine, a lot of data can be modeled this way. But for relational data, PostgreSQL or MySQL will be a better choice (and I can't see this changing).

Fair Enough, if you disagree. I would like to point out something to people who may see your comment, because I personally believe this is the way to get work in a specialized field. Feel free to rebut as well. This is just a note, my motiv
