This is one dimension of the problem. I think from the technical point of view having a more efficient stack that cost you less and the change in the system is cheap (aka software engineering time) can make your product more profitable even

This is exactly my problem with systemd. It exposes new problems and issues while does not provide the same functionality that software it is replacing.

Thanks for the reply! Interesting use case, I did not think about that angle. Thanks for explaining it. I definitely see some use of this library now.

Interesting project, it follows the OTP standards, that is a good sign. :) Not sure about a real world use case. I am aware of an implementation of pmap, wondering how is this project in relation to that. pmap: https://github.com

Sorry I was focused more on the making process than the actual product. This happens with software more often than with hardware. I started to work as a hardware test engineer back in the day, and I know how hard is to deliver something wit

Oh boy, in a world that is focused on productivity (aka deliver asap something even if it is partially broken) and not too much of quality, this can happen very easily.

If you work for a bigger organization these licenses are banned for a good reason. There are some companies who are a little bit too relaxed with this ban (like VMWare) and you can see the results. I know for fact that some of the big guys

I am not sure what you are talking about. I am talking about this: "Within 9 days, all of the top 10 Linux distributions will use systemd by default, or descend from one that does." https://chimeracoder.github.io/d

Having great C++ support is good for using libraries from the C++ ecosystem, I guess. This might help Rust to get traction, but there might be other features with more interest from the community that gets prioritized.

This could give a kick to Rust. According to recent news they are going to have a stable syntax + features for a while. http://blog.rust-lang.org/2015/04/03/Rust-1.0-beta.html http://blog.rust-lang

"Erlang needs a killer framework." I don't agree with this. Erlang has already frameworks but that is not the selling point of this language and environment. For me the reason to use Erlang is the concurrency patterns and the

Exactly, Erlang is a highly concurrent distributed system out of the box but this does not mean too much for Rails developers, on the other side the syntax is kind of hard to get used to. I think this is primarily why Elixir was created. I

Thanks this video is just too funny. I was aware of the quirkiness of C++ but this is very insightful. On the Go note, I like it but I think the target of Go is system programming with great concurrency support. More about Go here: http:&#

Thanks for the answer this is exactly what I was looking for. It seems that C++ is in a sweet spot and it is going to be hard to challenge its position.

Could somebody redpill me on why something like D ( http://dlang.org/ ) is not a better alternative to C++. Is that the library support or what exactly makes C++ still a better option in 2015? I am not sure what is the best a

Totally agree with you own this one, just looked into Haskell code this week and it was too much black magic going on. I like ML (and more specifically OCaml) because it is more readable to me and easier to understand. Now this might change

Well if you are going for the obvious reasons, I guess the insane amount of tech related investment and subsequently generated wealth plays significant role in this but what people quite often forget is the local government. I would recomme

I guess Facebook hired a lot of MySQL people and that investment is bigger than the technological one. Also, you are right, Postgres is ahead of MySQL in terms of JSON support and many more.
