Unless you know something we don't, it sounds like you are extrapolating an awful lot about some folks based on extremely little actual information.

Seems to me mutual respect and such niceties of civil society as being kind, respecting pronoun preferences, avoiding derogatory language, etc. are essential to making HN a worthwhile place to be.

News articles are not typically written like formulaic school essays where you state a thesis, support the thesis, and then conclude. They are instead written as if the reader could be whisked away at any moment and so the most important in

I just spent the weekend banging my head against the wall trying to record and upload audio in Safari. Chrome and FF were relatively easy. Know of any good open source examples or documentation on how to do this? It really is sad that somet

That was an interesting read. Turns out they do use UPnP, but it's just one of many tools they turn to when other techniques fail.

I have to imagine the defendants who opt for a bench trial have reasons for making that choice that don't necessarily apply to the defendants who choose a jury trial.

It's my impression that there's a larger variety of accents in the UK, maybe that's why British people are more familiar with IPA? We do have IPA in our dictionaries, though.

I just want to say that I think it's awesome that you are sharing your personal experience with ADHD here. The stigma around mental health does no one any good, and too often when ADHD comes up on HN, the loudest voices are people dism

That's not a bug, it's a feature. Why shouldn't we have socialized childcare? Our economy needs parents to be able to work 40 hours per week while raising children. If anything, we need to provide better support to families

Obviously tests are imperfect, but it's silly to dismiss them as useless. Standardized tests are the best tool we have to ensure our schools are providing all children quality educations regardless of economic or racial background or d
