Agreed, but as a counterpoint, read this story on a very interesting housing project in Montreal (1967). https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=25940074

This is partly due to survivorship bias. I bet that anyone who bought Argentinian stocks in 1927 never recovered their investment. A lot of the dotcom investments simply failed and disappeared. And I'm sure there are examples of land b

I have had only trouble traveling by train in Germany. It happened so many times that I believe it becomes statistically significant. In comparison, I can't remember the last time a train trip in France was anything but smooth. A few e

Conversely, Einstein started as a patents clerk. He had his idea for general relativity when he read about a worker falling off his ladder. Then, with the help of a friend, he spent the next three years learning the mathematical techniques

In Europe (in most countries as far as I can tell), electronic filing is administered by the government, and it's easy to use (often prefilled for simple situations). As mentioned in the article, in the US, electronic filing is offered

My brain works the same. When it comes geography, I tend to learn and remember a lot about the countries I visit. But empty learning just doesn't work for me.

Yes, the article resonated with me because I lived in Berlin for 4 years. When your child wakes up at 4 am and the sky is bright blue outside, it's impossible to put them back to bed!

It reminds me of this article [0], a very interesting read on "surviving" winter in Sweden (and Northern latitudes in general). It ends with how in summer things are flipped and everyone complains about how poorly they sleep. [0]

It reminds me of this anecdote (probably a joke): After the fall of the Soviet Union, UK experts flew in to help with the transition, and one of the apparatchiks asked: "We are eager to try this capitalism thing; now tell us: who is in

Back in the early 2000s there was a browser toolbar from Google that allowed you to do exactly that. Maybe such a tool today would be too easy to abuse?

What I would like to know is, for young males (i.e. those who are most at risk of myocarditis after the vaccine), does the vaccine lessen cardiac risks in a subsequent infection or not?
