Actually, at the time the original BASIC Stamp was released (early 90s), programming a microcontroller directly from your serial port was a huge improvement. Most microcontrollers back then required a separate, expensive programming board,

That post is 6 years old and ONTAP has been through at least 3 major releases since then. Additionally, the post states that the purpose of ONTAP on Linux was to simulate ONTAP for testing & education purposes. In 2006 this was probably

My point is that it doesn't matter how many factors your authentication system has, it is still broken if someone spinning a yarn via telephone can get full access.

2-factor auth has been cracked before [1] and will be again until there is a standard on how to implement it. With implementations differing between companies, a cracker can play one org's weakness off another org. Like in this case, using

The proxy method does not work using the latest Flash in Mountain Lion, as it ignores proxy settings.

As I stated at the top of my gist (did you read it?) and in other comments here, this simply does not work using the latest Flash in Mountain Lion. In this situation, Flash ignores proxy settings, and streaming does not work.

Actually, the Flash BBC iPlayer will _not_ work if it connects from the United States. Additionally, I discovered that the BBC is using Akamai for streaming their live content, and Akamai's United States servers do not have the content. So

This is patently untrue, at least with the latest Flash in Mountain Lion. If you read the top paragraph of my post, you'd know this.

Indeed, Flash on OS X (at least, in Mountain Lion anyway) does not respect proxy settings. Additionally, the Flash BBC iPlayer will not work if it connects from the United States, despite what SG- has said below.

edit: original poster was suggesting using a ssh -D SOCKS method instead. He deleted his comment, this was my reply: This method does not work. You cannot get Flash to go through a HTTP or SOCKS proxy on Mountain Lion. The very reason that

All of the UK-endpoint VPN providers I considered were sketchy in one way or another, and most of them had very poor speeds from the UK to the US. A VPN connection usually bypasses your local firewall too, depending on configuration, which

If the BBC changes their IP addresses and I haven't updated the IP list, you can simply adjust your VPN client settings to route all traffic over the VPN connection. Viscosity makes this easy. That will always work, but will cause other Int

The cows have magnets because they eat metal. The danger for humans isn't just 2 magnets, it's 1 magnet + something ferrous, of which a magnet is just one possibility.

What about 10Gb ethernet? 10Gb NICs can be bought for under $200 a piece these days, and 10Gb switches can be bought for under $100 per port. Yes, it's more expensive than 1Gb, but that doesn't mean you can exclude it as an option.
