For what it's worth, I have a python background and Sonic Pi was my introduction to Ruby too. It does feel a bit weird but the built in tutorials are really quite good. You can get pretty far just copying and pasting samples. Play arou

Properly managed hydro should help prevent flooding, which I imagine is incredibly valuable in an area with annual monsoon season. It's not like overflowing reservoirs are adding water to the watershed, it just means they don't ye

This is the bit that should be at the very top of the official docs. It's tripped me up every time I go to write async code and until you learn it, the error message is very confusing. > In particular, calling it will immediately re

EDIT: re-reading your comment I think I see now you were agreeing with me. :-) Leaving this here as elucidation. That python code throws UnboundLocalError, which seems like what it should do to me. If you move total = 0 to before def inc

To be clear, I'd like all tables to throw an error on unresolved key names. And I can't think of any cases where the current behavior is necessary for any of the features I like. I think the design decision to have unresolved name

I use Lua a fair bit in my day job. The comment about it being a minimalist toolkit that allows you add scripting on top of domain specific tools is spot on. That is exactly the use case that Lua shines in. My favorite feature is the way th

I like the concept of using mypyc to leverage type hints to compile python. But I was pretty frustrated recently when I got bit by a bug in mypyc[1] while trying to use black. Especially since I wasn't using mypyc myself and so didn&#x

Humans are social creatures. Perhaps the stereotype of the energetic and motivated individual is an anomaly of human behavior. Some degree of "loafing", to use the OP's word is natural and healthy for individuals and the grou

There are cell phone sized thingies that can send text messages to iridium's constellation, which is (as I understand it) way further away than starlink. I use one while backpacking. I'd be super excited to get the same capability

They spent $47 million[1] on 600m of cable that can do 574MVA. It's underground and cooled with liquid nitrogen. TIL. On the one hand, I'm impressed. I didn't think we were close to this sort of thing being feasible at all. O
