I think they meant they got options which they can execute at a fixed price within a limited amount of time after their tenure. Most early stage companies give their (ex) employees a small window to execute these options after they leave.

I guess our difference is opinion is when you want to invest your time learning at least the semi scalable infrastructure. It doesn't have to be docker, could even just be ansible. Or cop out like me and use App Engine/Beanstalk.
