Thanks for the additional links. I guess you would need temperature stable viral RNApol to do direct 'RNA' amplification. Not sure if that exists or if it's even possible due to RNA instability. As you say not so worthwhile d

> the emphasis in the wiki article is on DNA, the same basic principles apply with RNA. This is not my understanding. PCR works to produce DNA because the DNA polymerase enzyme creates DNA copies from DNA templates, and those copies beco

Thanks for your post and FWIW I don't think your views are crazy, selfish, unsympathetic or offensive at all. If only the global attention and resources that have gone into the covid crisis could be channelled into the many equally, or

It's nice to believe this, but having a flu jab is only proven to protect yourself. It's not sterilising immunity so you can still become infected, shed virus, and infect others while asymptomatic. It's quite dangerous if a

From a community perspective, no, because AFAIK no vaccine confers sterilising immunity, so my being vaccinated isn't likely to help reduce transmission. I will be very happy to see human studies that prove otherwise. It's be sho

I wonder if the notion of a cover letter is waning in tech recruitment. Did you write a cover letter for those 250+ positions, and if so, I wonder who read it? When I applied for IC roles in the past I put a fair amount of thought into writ

I'm thinking that 85/21,750 or 0.4% of the controls developed the disease (vs 0.04% of those who received vaccine). It does seem low for the US where you have 3% of the population had disease already in 2020. Perhaps more data cam

It is great news. I didn't see the case numbers but I've inferred to arrive at 90% that there were 9 cases in vaccinated group vs 85 in controls. (95% C.I. 80-99%) Very interested to see forthcoming results from competitors that

This confused me as well. I didn't know that there was the ENV command for dockerfiles. It never occurred to me that someone would want to use that, and certainly not to put a secret in a plaintext dockerfile. Seems such an obvious

B3 overdose is dangerous if you have susceptibility to gout. This happened to me after I inadvertently megadosed by consuming a knock-off Berocca drink containing something like 10x RDI. That was over 10 years ago. I have not had a gout att

The biggest difference between sales and engineering is the concept of closing. Engineering or research work is never completed. We are always improving and perfecting the machine. Closing needs to be thought of binary. This doesn't ne

Can you elaborate on how keybase put you in that position? If by 'recovering' you mean recover after a lost key, then I'd regard that as a feature not a bug! Am looking for a keybase alternative now.

If they had a transparent build server which published directly to the stores (ala fastlane) that would go a long way. Folks could see builds running when code is pushed and the app versions being released soon after.

Euromomo data is really interesting to me because of these two points: 1) the spike in death rate caused by Covid-19 this year is of the same magnitude as the normal flu season spike in 2016 2) this year's flue season spike was low com

Both are hard problems. However the folding properties of both nucleic acid and proteins is where the complexity lies. It's the 3D structure, not the sequences so much of these molecules that determine intra- extra- and inter-cellular
