I genuinely have yet to connect on this idea that we are “burning Alexandria” or AI companies are ruining the future of humanity because most of these books are absolutely junk. I do think book copyright law needs a ton of work but I think

Puts the burden on government to store what is probably 90% worthless material. Copyright should really be amended so that once out of print and a grace period it’s free use. I am probably more of an anarchist in this regard. Similar to my

As someone who has gone to many many used book sales over decades… many of the books at a sale never get sold, guess what they usually get tossed in the dump. This includes your local library book sales. Books are heavy and worthless. Che

And guess what 98% of consumer air filtering systems utilize a hepa filter. You’re really over optimizing a non problem. Unless you are constantly producing more contaminants than the system can keep up with it’s totally a fine solution.

This reads as being overly confident and wrong. Optimizing for CADR is right but saying HEPA is counterproductive is simply wrong. We are not trying to filter out asbestos and consumer air purifiers are meant to mix the air. So long as over

That’s part of it but I also think education, no caste system, efficient corruption etc. I sometimes watch those Indian manufacturing videos and it amazes me how much India is living in the past.

This is an awesome resource, thank you for sharing. I especially love that Amazon basic bulbs are fine for the first on the list.

You don’t realize how many books are out there, most are worthless and nobody wants.

I don’t think we read the same article. None of these books were identified and they said rare can be low print volume or foreign language.

You are defending something that makes no sense. If you want to get mad at something get mad at copyright law.

And libraries throw away a lot of books that go to the dump. So what? You should be pushing for better copyright law not Amazon for buying up worthless books.

I like this and think it could make a lot of sense but you would need to thoughtfully tie it to volume or something similar. I could see publishers gaming the system. I would also add that once it drops out of print that it should belike ge

And that’s why imo the outrage should be about copyright law not the businesses. I think it’s a hard problem to solve but right now with copyright on new books being the life of the author + 70 years it’s a bit silly.

Once you start to realize just many books got thrown out annually before “AI” you have less sympathy. Libraries are one of the biggest contributors to this because there is simply too many books that nobody cares about. I suspect folks are

This was my issue as well. It seems like they tip toed around it in one paragraph saying usually these are books with isbn numbers so not truly collectible or very rare and then in another paragraph plainly stated that it could be foreign l

Again, what rare books? Like they pointed to a book with low published volume or foreign language is “rare”. If you have ever been to annual library book sales you start to realize just how many books get thrown out. I can go buy a stack of

Does anyone else get pretty tired with 404s style of writing? I hate to make this comparison but it feels like a Fox News for the left. I always struggle with their articles because it feels like they built it for rage bait on a topic and l

Again I have not seen it. I am sure in certain niches used book prices have gone up as almost all second hand items have with resellers and the internet. But I have been buying used books for decades and they are as cheap as ever. so what p

Agree. I am a big believer in always starting new chats. The harness/model should be able to easily find anything we are working on.

Quality is hard to measure and I would not say the concern is so much cost but the intersection of cost and time. Often I am jamming on something and I like being somewhat in the loop. So maybe same level of quality, I am using Anthropic mo

Does anyone find compaction useful? I have always been a big believer of many small chats instead of large ones. There is certainly a time and a place where maybe I need to load in a lot to initial context BUT I often find that quality goes

Just as a +1 anecdote. I enjoy using pi a lot. I used to h think the harness matters a lot but with the current iteration of models I am starting to sway that while it matters it’s less and less important and that CC is bloated. I did some

Vibes like your low quality comment? What’s the counter argument? pi and ohmypi are pretty fantastic. Of course like all developer tools it depends how you do your work but I am not sure what you are trying to achieve in your comment.

Inversely I don’t understand the praise for CC. These days it feels like bloatware. It absolutely can get the work done but when I measure on token and time use it ends up being a multiple of pi like harnesses. CC works but for me it felt l

Said differently I am surprised it is so easily exploited. While there is a nonzero chance to jailbreak, I would think they would have implemented some rigorous methods to try and prevent leakage.
