What do you mean by "dirty"?

Yes! I totally get this. I think it's akin to the "mind palace" method popularized in media.

I don't see it anywhere else on the web so it might be specific to Wezterm, but they seem to call it "Batman". https://github.com/wez/wezterm/blob/a034730373c341aa078765c0...

Mullvad is probably the best choice for most. It's the company Mozilla is relying on for their VPN service as well.

Why spend billions on upgrades when you can spend millions on lobbying and setting up legal obstructions?

While I don't exactly agree with this, I'd like to remind the sibling comments that simply saying communism is worse isn't a valid argument for capitalism.

I don't know if I'd call it an unwillingness to roll over, or simply political theatre. Here are some quotes from [0] >“He then, stunningly, turned the conversation to the coming U.S. presidential election, alluding to China’s

Have we just decided that there's no such thing as a path to redemption now? While people on the left spend their energy taking down people who are most likely their allies for the smallest missteps instead of trying to work with them

Is work down? At least where I am, even during the strictest parts of lockdown construction never stopped. And so many people are starting renovation projects that's the price of things like lumber has gone up significantly.

Yes, but many of the people who use the service are in developing countries where free is always considered better. If they had to charge those people WhatsApp never would have taken off in those locales like it has.

That's definitely one interpretation. Another could simply be diversifying risk by opening up shop in multiple places.

If I'm not mistaken, signal is specifically hosted on AWS to so that governments can't just blacklist their IPs without blacklisting all of AWS. So moving to bare metal isn't really an option.

Not to be contradictory for the sake of it, but I see nothing specific about alien life in that. A̶l̶l̶ ̶I̶ ̶s̶e̶e̶ ̶i̶s̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶a̶ ̶r̶a̶d̶i̶o̶ ̶r̶e̶c̶o̶r̶d̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶s̶o̶m̶e̶ ̶M̶o̶r̶s̶e̶ ̶c̶o̶d̶e̶ ̶w̶a̶s̶ ̶r̶e̶c̶o̶r̶d̶e̶d̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶

Good catch. Since USG is Unifi Security Gateway, I kinda just mixed it up with Unifi Protect. Still a troubling development IMO.

Well this is a disappointing development. I'm currently using EdgeRouter hardware, but was considering moving to their Unifi line for my next upgrade. Guess that's off the table till I can use these without cloud access.

You can also just run a docker container for it [0]. This has the added benefit of separating your data from the runtime so you can move it around as if you had a physical cloud key. [0] https://hub.docker.com/r/linuxse

I was confused by the parent comment too. Aside from the remote management features, if you turn off cloud login you still get everything else. Maybe it's something specific to the USG Pro? I've only used the smaller USG.

That's because they make money from advertising that they then use to pay for moderators. I doubt most brands would even want to touch Parler with a 10 foot pole.

I mean, this isn't the first group the CPC has done this to. We only have to look back a bit to Tibet to see a proto version of what's happening now in Xinjiang. And no one really talks about that anymore. Heck, they're still

You didn't specifically list where you're based, but worth checking local laws. Some places have requirements for on-call work and companies simply get around it because most employees don't know.

Does that not just speak to a larger problem with the current political system that twisting the arm of a large company is the only way to affect change?

I've actually just given up on notebooks. They just don't work for my writing style. What I do now is use loose leaf papers and a binder. It's not as nice looking or as compact, but it lets me focus on writing instead of anno

Tangentially related, but isn't small scale farming, especially in poorer countries, something that's on its way out? Like if you are a farmer, you work hard and send your kids to school. Your kids will probably then move to the c
