Why wouldn't they? Is there anything specific about Apple hardware that enables iMessage to work that is missing on Android devices?
- ubermonkey 6y agoBecause there's no good business reason for Apple to do so. iMessage is a feature of iOS and MacOS. It's part of the advantage of working on those platforms.
- rbanffy 6y agoApple also makes it easy for the iPhone to sync with Windows. There is a Windows version of iTunes (does it still exist?) The more people on the platform, the better for Apple as network effects make the platform more useful. The same applies to FaceTime.
- ubermonkey 6y agoThose exist because, without them, they'd sell fewer iPhones and iPods. Porting and supporting iMessage on Windows or Android would not accomplish the same thing.
- rbanffy 6y agoThey control the hardware and the OS completely and can ensure your messages won't leak to other apps unless you explicitly allow it. Apple can't guarantee the same level of control on Android for all versions and hardware.
