A few years ago, if you registered an exact match domain for a keyword and built a thin site around it with 4-5 articles you could rank for that keyword pretty easily. I have no idea if this is still possible today.

I do wonder why citizens acting in rational self-interest don't just legislate themselves significantly lower taxes. My guess is that such initiatives would fail mainly because the special interests that are the main beneficiaries of tax do

Getting an intro from one of the investor's portfolio companies seems to be the accepted path.

Thanks for the link, that is interesting. Of course, there were no startups willing to eschew traditional hiring practices back then.

I doubt it, the correlation does not imply causation. My hunch is that the people graduating from college are the kind of people that would find it easier to find a job anyway.

The unemployment rate for college graduates as a whole is under 5%. White collar workers are not the ones feeling the brunt of the recession.

This looks like a potentially great project, but this is probably the most badly designed landing page of all time. The call to action is a really tiny gray icon on the bottom. It made my head hurt just trying to figure out how to sign up

This document should be required reading for anyone doing a startup. The biggest takeaway for me from this is that marketing isn't just driving traffic or contacting bloggers. It's a comprehensive process of optimizing landing pages, tracki

Thanks, that post provides a bit more context. I guess the debate is basically "At what point do you start spending on customer acquisition?". The early days of any platform are a somewhat unique perfect storm of opportunity. Much like the

I think it comes down to the fact that, considering the work involved and that the majority of startups fail, it's never an economically rational decision to work on a startup. Realistic to most people means in the "real world" you follow a

Good thing Zynga, his most successful portfolio company didn't listen to his advice. Much of their initial growth came from buying users. Only later is the origin myth of "we built something cool and it just went viral" put into place.

You're going to have a hard time selling a site without significant revenue on Flippa. I would recommend removing the listing until you've tested monetization strategies(maybe small sponsored links in the emails you send). If you sell this

Well done Joseph, congrats on the continuing growth! People mulling startup ideas take note: A great way to build something people want is to find a process that has become entrenched and stagnant and identify and remove points of friction

This seems reasonable, except that the #1 rule of investing is that past performance does not guarantee future results. If the team is so great and VCs are investing in the team, then why is the UI/usability of Color so bad? I think the rea
