Thank you for this post..it really is a breath of fresh air after all the buzzword-laden but completely substance-free pitches you tend to hear after spending time in the Bay Area. When startups respond to the question of "How will you make

Surprisingly, Facebook is kicking Google's ass on this. If you spend a decent amount on Facebook, you will get a rep you can email any time and get back a response from a real human. They can expedite the approval of your ads and will even

If I were you I would strongly reconsider your pricing....you're underpricing by quite a lot. The last place I was in, the company my landlord used for online rent collection charged 1.50 per transaction...to the tenant. That's in addition

As mentioned elsewhere, Amazon is one of the largest email senders in the world. They probably know a thing or two about deliverability.

Go to any mainstream web site frequented by an older, less tech-savvy audience like weather.com. Take a look at the text ads on the right side and the landing pages they link to. There's your crash course in the current state of the affilia

(Un)Fortunately for woot, the professional/slightly greyhat affiliates are not going to bother building campaigns that compete with Amazon and eBay for a piddling percent of sale commission . The only affiliates they(and 99% of the other pr

Actually, most of the top affiliate marketers make money by arbitraging paid or organic traffic. Very few are creating sites that are much more than thin landing pages.

Their users are not their customers, their advertisers are. Considering the low conversion rates of Facebook traffic, that seems just right.

The problem is that by definition, people will not go to Qwiki for long-tail searches (because they won't have good content on them). And long-tail, specific, targeted searches/users is where the money is for sponsored links.

It really seems to me that Qwiki is a solution I'n search of a problem. What problem is it really solving? Could you ever imagine yourself paying for Qwiki?

This interview lacks substance, but you can still learn from it if you read between the lines. A few takeaways: -Google is investing continuously in the display ad marketplace -A sure way to get acquired is to build relationships with busin

Recommended CPC means nothing, ignore it. Start under $1.00, wait until you have established a decent CTR and then start lowering your bids until you stop getting impressions.

Different industries have different rules I suppose. Allright, I've enabled fulltext feeds for the time being, we'll see how it goes. Spam considerations aside, it's a tradeoff between subscriber counts and pageviews. I'm not entirely clear

Unfortunately, fulltext RSS feeds are easy prey for scraper/spam sites, which is why most blogs don't use them. Nowadays, it looks like most people use RSS as more of a notification when new content is posted.

This create a really interesting dilemma for Google. A significant portion of Groupon's subscriber base comes from the Google Ads they are running. Now Google can either: 1. Ban Groupon from advertising on AdWords 2. Use the CTR and convers

It's very hard to get a loan to start a business nowadays. Banks like to give loans to businesses with an established business model investing in growth. If you really believe in your idea, why not finance it with credit cards?

That speaks more to the quality of your Facebook campaigns than Facebook's profitability. The guys actually spending significant money on Facebook are not paying more than 30-40 cents CPC.
