I didn't say "just give them contraceptives." That's why education is key as well. People who are well-educated have less children, on average. Look at the US, for example. So educate them, and enable them to become wealthy. Right now, they

The trick is realizing that the last 3 words of your third sentence are the most important part of your slightly offensive post. That, and education. Starving a people until they can eat off of the barren land they inhabit is certainly one

Wonderful! Every day, more and more reasons not to build my own blogging engine. One wee request? If you've got the inclination, Clojure's a language that's growing fast and is eminently useful: it might be useful to have a highlighting mod

Not only that, but I'd imagine your customer felt more involved in the process and felt she had more ownership of the project because of it. I have this problem: I like to start at the edges. One of the biggest hurdles for me when I code is

I think this addendum the user whose tweet you posted has describes it quite well: http://cl.ly/18ax Twitter users, unless they protect their tweets (in which case you're not searching though them: surprise!), know that everyone can see t

Because friends and family aren't your boss you're bitching about on Facebook. Please, this argument is getting old. And if "people" didn't mind, this probably wouldn't be getting so much attention.

This is almost an argument for having open status updates: these are hilarious. On the other hand, had I not just deleted my FB account, I would have been upset over this. Zuck's gang recklessly opens up whatever they see fit: it could easi

I was using Facebook, for a lot of reasons, but deleted my account yesterday. I'm living fine without it. No one is forcing me to use it, and email (free! but using Mail.app and my iPhone to give it a boost I want and need–though I wouldn't

Makes sense to me. Regardless of if the software if free, you do have the choice to use it. I love the idea of free software, but in practice it's left a lot to be desired for me. For others, more power to them if it works for them.

I don't know that files are broken. Our brains are trained to "select" things: from the correct answer on a test, to the right phrase to say on your significant other's birthday. Limiting user exposure from little bundles of portable info

Absolutely gorgeous. I want more. God, but it makes me feel bad. My attempts as design are pitiful compared to some of those (most of those... all of those?) examples. Gives me a lot to look up to, and much to aspire to.

You're missing my point: the OS should be able to cache the (up to n ) pages that haven't been explicitly closed by the user in the HD, and when there's a page fault in main memory when a user tries to access the ones the 256MB can hold, t

Is this because the iPhone OS doesn't use paging? It seems like this could be handled from the software side of things: the HD is solid state, and though sacrificing a second of time to switch to a web page that's been cached in the HD isn'
