It's time to start thinking about alternative presentations of literature in applications. Books are books and are loved and read and enjoyed in their own right. The Alice in Wonderland application he references is not a book; it is an in

I've got to say, I've been playing with it for a while, and it's absolutely beautiful in every way: snappy, pretty, useful, intuitive & feature-packed. Panic does it again.

Love it! Perhaps a simple tagging/categories mechanism, crowd-sourced or by the editors. Sometimes I'm in the mood for a certain type of article, and having the simple recommendation that it's of the "US/National/Politics" genre is enough t

Sorry for the downvote from whoever… I upvoted you. I think you've got a point. CSSEdit is a great way to edit CSS. More more intuitive and relaxed, not necessarily better, but neither is emacs necessarily better.

I've never seen the need for anything but emacs to edit my source. What a program.

Yes, I really am. The only use I will miss if being able to contact a targeted group of people when I make my own ads. Which is a sick reason to not want to leave. But I feel as though my rights as a user of their service have been violat

No. It shouldn't. Yes it may make money, but who honestly believes this is a contender in this brave new world of smartphones? There's nothing exceptional about the phone at all. And it would take something exceptional to break into the mar

Good to know. Waste of a thousand or so $. Was hoping it had changed for this release, but I suppose that's hoping too much.

Any way to find out what "solid state drive" they've got? Is it Intel's X2? That'd make a big difference in how much I'd want to spend/how much time I'd want to spend installing my own.

The primary tools I use are ssh and sftp, emacs and git. Those do most of what I need, though occasionally I find myself saving some time by using Filezilla. If I can manage it, I use Acorn for image editing, and fall back to Photoshop if i

In other news, the sun rose today. This is an anecdotal article telling no one anything new, nor is it conveying an opinion or any sort of knowledge you wouldn't expect most HN-ers to know. For some actually interesting reads: http://cpirf

I've got to agree with jodrellblank's sentiment. While the email was undoubtedly pretentious, I've got to say that ESR brings to light some really important points... at some point, systems that "mere mortals" use to keep track of a large c

Too cool–love seeing examples like this after I begin to learn a language: everything in here is mostly understandable after reading about half of "Programming Clojure" (which I heartily recommend). Not only that, but it's something interes

Another interesting mathutation article on HN... Nice. I've got to say, both in CS/hacking and math, I find myself spending a lot of time carrying out computations to get a feel for a problem. I poke around a problem until an answer begins

What a fascinating article - rarely do you run across such well written math material! I've got to disagree on the intuitiveness of Cantor's diagonal theory, though; that was one of the most beautiful and intuitive proofs in set theory for

I think that's BS. While I'm not a professional as either, I do both and enjoy both – I didn't have the resources to hire my own sysadmin, but now I've found that I enjoy it. I think to enjoy doing either requires many of the same qualities
