Exactly what I was thinking, though I do still enjoy seeing CAR and CDR. But I'm the kind of guy who likes steampunk, and it's in the same vein. I, too, am looking forward to more posts; it's worth checking out the posts that are up already

I would argue that there isn't so much of a different between intuition and rational thinking as one might think. Rational thinking is mostly understood to be a deductive form of "thinking" that a electrical/mechanical device could simulate

Me and a few other people use Things. I hear Omni has a good business going, as well. Simplenote, Evernote, & friends seem to be doing alright. There's always room for something better.

That sounds like an excellent app idea. I'll be signing up, for sure. Might I suggest that you check out using something like http://notifo.com/ to send users texts when their timers end?

Not trying to be passive aggressive here, at all; I agree with you here. The reason I didn't post anything was that HN has gotten pretty damn meta recently too. I'm not sure posts like this will help anything, much; probably something needs

I think the NYT article (linked to in the NPR one) has a better, less metaphor-rife explanation of the current research. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/07/health/views/07mind.html?_...

Fantastic idea! I'm so glad you did this, and I'm quite glad it involves linking with HN accounts. I'd like to, maybe, see a karma barrier of 50 to 200, too, and maybe have karma on the site, as well? Thanks so much! I just posted a book. E

How about setting news.ww.com to forward to news.ycombinator.com? Or even... Y.ww.com? (if possible, and okay by pg. Just an idea.)

I wouldn't characterize myself as a libertarian, nor do I think that privatizing is a cure-all. You misrepresent me. What I said and what you portray my comment as saying are very different; contracting with third parties != privatizing NAS

It's interesting; lots of the complaints I got to are in fact addressed by Clojure. Syntax: code is still data, but there is additional syntax (like {} for maps, [] for vectors) that makes reading coding a bit easier; I don't particularly t

I absolutely agree with that sentiment as well. While we, as a species, are relatively inconsequential, Earth is all we've got (for now!) and it's a special, precious, thing indeed.

It's images like these that put into perspective the fragility of our species, and just how inconsequential we are, relative to the rest.

You don't really see the parens after a while. Clojure's appeal goes beyond its syntax, as I'm sure does whichever language you prefer. Curiously, the equivalent code in most other languages has about the same number of parens.
