Right but I was talking about the last ~10 years, not 72 to 32 years ago. Berlin (where I now live) also lost a lot of population from the 40s till 1990 but has seen a lot of growth in the past decade, thus the current competitive housing m

I was under the impression Pittsburgh is one of the currently hip gentrifying cities (like Austin or Portland were 10 years ago)? At least I know several people who moved there from other, already expensive, cities.

I don't understand the question - what if you dress casually and bump into someone more attractive that dresses the same as you?

This is even the case with Italian immigrants in Berlin! So I’ll for sure treat this as Italian or Mediterranean rather than a European attribute.

Where in Europe? I lived 8 years in Vienna and 8 years in Berlin and never saw much of a community of neighbors as you describe. I didn’t get the impression smaller towns like Linz or Brandenburg had these either but maybe I’m wrong. I can

That's where more context is needed - was the low turn over a protest vote (or protest lack of vote)? Was it indifference? Was it sabotage by the government (making voting hard)? I think these questions will determine the answer.

Unless there was foul play involved, if among 36.89% majority voted to join NATO and the rest didn't care enough to vote - isn't that an argument in favor of joining?

The point is what other options they have unless they are willing to immigrate. I don’t think these $72k developers are American expats but Ukrainians that for whatever reason don’t want or can’t leave their home country. And there are much

I suspect it's per month and using $ because you wouldn't intuitively know how much the Ukrainian currency is worth if you're not Ukrainian. $72k/year is low for the US but for Ukrainian standard it isn't - apparent

You may not have noticed it growing up, but it had a devastating effect on the economy of South Africa - despite natural resources SA is rich in (such as gold) reaching high prices at the same time.

It won’t be 50% of the cost due to overheads like said above, it may be more like 60%+. Another factor is that often the cost of developers is not the most significant factor. If a company can get say $100m of value out of $10m of salary co

I think this is a naive reading of historic events. The US didn't "open pizza huts" but collaborated vigorously and enthusiastically in the looting of Soviet state assets post-collapse.

I wonder if it only seems more dramatic because you are more familiar with the 50s and 80s than with the 20s and 40s? E.g. in many ways the 20s was a lot more liberal/"modern" than the 40s in a lot of places. I think a Europe

It’s not about “today”, it’s about Linux vs Win/Mac. The former is a lot less consistent than the latter and this was just as true in 1995 as it is today.

It's a relatively recent switch and as far as i understood it's still running the original in headless mode and communicates with unity, with the unity program basically only being the front end for the game.

Other than the father to son it sounds like nethack! First public release was 34 years ago and it has been under more or less active development since (with a few years-long periods of inactivity in the middle).

I believe Caves of Qud have also been under development for about 15 years: https://www.cavesofqud.com/ And there are of course the timeless classics that inspired these- nethack, angband & dungeon-crawl.

1943 was 79 years ago, so theoretically there might be? Jokes aside some IKEA stuff really is pretty good quality and lasts decades. Other stuff is cheap crap but you don't have to buy the cheap crap.
