Binney's project, ThinThread, seems to have been an effort to achieve the NSA mission without the need for bulk data collection ... And he was right to push for that, to the extent that any mass surveillance is justified. A whistleblo

The stat is not for 'impaired' drivers. Due to the testing procedure used, which lacks accuracy in the time domain, the stat is: 'has used cannabis this month.' More people are able to use cannabis when it is legal, so t

This is a valuable line of thinking. We could probably convince ourselves "it would never work" but instead, I'd be more interested to hear what other possibilities this would open up.

I reached a similar conclusion regarding Microsoft, based upon my own analysis: http://www.gh-impact.com/blog/the-most-influential-organizat... Despite being a latecomer to GitHub, Microsoft has risen to become the 4th

Luckily, it does not appear that reality is uniformly distributed. Instead, we've found that quite a few phenomena can be modelled using one statistical distribution or another. In other words, reality is quite regular, which makes i

The word "parenting" was coined in the 1950s. Prior to modern times, groups of people (maybe related, maybe just neighbours) shared childrearing responsibilities. It's unlikely anybody was a dedicated caregiver in the same s

I wanted to mention Flask-Diamond in this thread because it can be used to scaffold large applications quickly, sortof like Django. http://flask-diamond.org One reason you might use Flask-Diamond instead of Django is because you

I've used Flask for several dozen projects, mostly in the data science space. I combined the reusable bits to create http://flask-diamond.org - and I've written lots documentation to help people get work done using it

Bit rot, in one form or another, has been causing trouble since we started doing this computer thing. I have nightmares about my thoughts being stored on a punchcard but having no punchcard readers to read my own thoughts.

That's an excellent point about real-time sync. There is a button in gthnk that will grab any notes from mobile devices on-demand. I think this would permit somebody to move from a conference to their desk. However, I can also see how
